Kochi : The 76-year-old Kamakshi's story of grit who got stuck in a sludge for over five hours and held on to her dear life, without giving up has become a story for mankind to remember for a long time.
The septuagenarian, on Tuesday, who works as a domestic help, decided to take a shortcut to a home she was to work at, near Maradu in Kochi on Tuesday afternoon. While wading through the uncharted territories through the shrubs, little did she know that she was going to fall into a sludge in the location. "Before keeping my foot I thought the floor was hard, it turned out to be a sludge and before I could decide what's next, I fell into the slush-filled pit, trapped neck deep.
Kamakshi, during the fall held on to a branch of a tree for grip. She was stuck in this situation for about 5 years until a neighbour noticed a movement in the shrub, 50 metres away.
"Before my prayers, I was just sliding my curtains when I saw a movement in the shrub. I first thought it was chicken. To confirm, out of curiosity I came down," stated, Zeenath to the local media, who noticed it around 3.45 PM.
She fell into the sludge at around 11 Am and was rescued by the Fire department at around 4.30. "The woman was completely exhausted. She had lost her voice when she rescued her," stated a rescue personal.
Kamakshi was rushed to the nearest private hospital in Maradu while she was in an exhausted stage.
Kamakshi is the sole breadwinner of the family
What's even more heart-burning is that the 76-year-old is the only aide for a specially-able son. To eke out a living, the senior citizens continue to do household work in the locality.
Republic reached out to Antony Ashanparambil, chairman of Maradu Municipality to find out whether the coal administration is aware of the dire situation of the woman and family. "I was informed about the rescue of Kamakshi, but was not aware that she was working to help her specially-abled son," he stated, and based on Republic input he assured due support will be provided to the senior citizen soon.
I WAS NOT SCARED
After getting medical support, Kamakshi spoke to the media and stated she was not scared of the situation. "I just ensured I don't leave that branch of a tree, no matter what," she told the local media at the spot.
Kamakshi's extraordinary journey, her survival in the sludge and her ongoing dedication to working at the age of 76 to provide for her dependent son, truly send a message that many super heroes, without a cape, are still hiding in plain sight.
