Jammu & Kashmir: The Jammu and Kashmir Police in Baramulla successfully apprehended a fraudster involved in a marriage scam, bringing relief to an unsuspecting family.
The investigation was initiated following a distress call from a resident of Hudpora Khaitangan, Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat made a distress call concerning his brother's upcoming marriage scheduled for December 31, 2023. The families, unacquainted with each other, relied on Sharif Ah Gaasi from Kakapora Pulwama as an intermediary. However, Gaasi's sudden silence prompted Bhat's concerns, leading to a written application lodged at the Police Post Delina in Baramulla district.
"In response, case FIR no 02/2024 was registered at the Baramulla Police Station, initiating a thorough investigation into the matter," stated a police official.
The swift action of the Police Post Delina bore fruit as Gaasi was traced to Srinagar. Subsequent inquiries revealed Gaasi's fraudulent actions, exploiting the family under the pretense of arranging the marriage, illicitly acquiring Rs. 1.18 lacs.
"The accused has been detained at the Police Station Baramulla pending further investigation," confirmed a senior police officer to Republic.
The apprehension of the fraudster underscores the commitment of the J&K Police in safeguarding citizens against deceitful attempts. The ongoing investigation aims to shed light on the intricate web of deception and ensure justice for the affected family.
