Maharashtra government floats tenders for tourism expansion plans
On December 27, the Maharashtra government gave a go ahead to letting out resorts and lands to private companies in order to boost expansion of rooms and recreational facilities.
The policy decision to allow private investors in state tourism was taken in 2016 by the Maharashtra government. Now, the state government has floated tenders for private participation in its tourist resorts. The state will lease out Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) properties for public private partnership (PPP).
Moreover, in 2020, the state cabinet approved the development of open land parcels at the aforementioned tourist locations.
"An approval is being given to develop resorts and lands at Mahabaleshwar, Matheran, Harihareshwar, Mithbav, Tadoba, Fardapur and Ganpatipule with a public private partnership with prior permissions from the state high power committee," read a statement from the Maharashtra government.
The move by the state government aims to encourage and boost tourism at these tourist hotspots in the state that are already popular.
