Medical Student Alleges Forceful Conversion In Karnataka, FIR Lodged

A Karnataka man has been booked by the police for assaulting a Hindu woman after she refused to convert to Islam.

Bengaluru: A case has been registered against a 27-year-old Muslim man in Karnataka's Udupi for assaulting a Hindu woman after she refused to convert to Islam. The woman, in her complaint, alleged that the man made derogatory remarks against Hinduism and demanded that she convert to Islam. "The accused allegedly made derogatory remarks about Hinduism and the Ram Temple, causing distress to the complainant," the FIR said.

When the woman refused, he hit her and made sexual demands, it added.

Police said the accused wanted to marry the woman. 

The 24-year-old woman is pursuing MBBS at the Manipal KMC Hospital in Udupi, while the accused is studying MD at the same college, officials said.

The victim told the police that the man also made several phone calls to her, threatening to make her videos viral on social media.

"When the complainant refused, the accused is said to have assaulted her by hitting her on the neck, pulling her hair, and making sexual demands. The accused also allegedly threatened to make the complainant's videos viral and continued to harass her via phone calls up to August 28, 2024," the FIR stated.

Officials said investigation is underway in the case.
