Get ready to make phone calls and surf the Internet on flights! Telecom Commission has given its nod

Suresh Prabhu, the Union Minister for Civil Aviation, has confirmed that the telecom commission has approved data and voice services in flights over Indian airspace.

In a development that cant be understated, Suresh Prabhu, Union Minister for Civil Aviation, has confirmed that telecom commission has approved data and voice services in flights over Indian air.

minister, who also oversees Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has also written about implementation about move, saying that he will follow up to ensure earliest implementation of move.

In January, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) h issued recommendations on in-flight connectivity (IFC) where airlines would be allowed to offer mobile and internet services so long as certain security-related conditions were met.

As per sources, Spice Jet will be first airline to implement this.

Telecom Commission has also approved TRAI's recommendations on Internet telephony, as well a proposal to create an ombudsman to deal with telecom grievances. ombudsman will be set up under TRAI and will reqiuire an amendment to TRAI act.
