Ghulam Nabi Azad condemns house arrest of NC chief Farooq Abdullah

Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad on Wednesday criticised the decision to detain NC leader, Farooq Abdullah. He said there has been no democracy in India.

Senior Congress leer Ghulam Nabi Az on Wednesday criticised  decision to detain National Conference (NC) leer, Farooq Abdullah, saying that re has been democracy in country for last six years and government has behaved in such a manner with or political parties and its leers.

Ghulam Nabi Az said, "This does t happen in a democratic country. world was proud of India's democracy. This government is suppressing voices of people. We have a right to hold political activities and raise our concerns. This has happened for first time since independence that political leers have been put behind bars for doing thing. I condemn this act by government. re has been democracy in country for last six years. government has behaved in such a manner with or political parties and its leers," he said.

'Unacceptable behaviour by Centre'

Farooq Abdullah was detained at his house in Srinagar at around 10:30 on Wednesday morning. Ghulam Nabi Az, Leer of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, was also critical of detention of Abdullah's daughter and sister for protesting against abrogation of Article 370 and bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories. "It is upsetting that family of political leers like Farooq Abdullah were arrested by police for holding a silent protest. y were just sitting quietly in park holding placards. t only that, several or small leers who do t have any charges against m have also been put behind bars. female protesters were manhandled by police and were locked up in Central Jail. This kind of behaviour by Centre is unacceptable," he furr stated.

Criticises Centre 

"I condemn this. central government has withdrawn provisions of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir to bag votes. This is t right," Congress leer ded. Many political leers, including Farooq Abdullah and his son Omar Abdullah, have been placed under detention or house arrest since August. People's Democratic Party (PDP) leer Mehbooba Mufti was also detained. He furr targeted  Modi government and said that terrorism has got a fillip in India after BJP came to power. "Terrorism has got a fillip ever since BJP came to power at Centre because y could t handle situation, y have clue about Jammu and Kashmir politics except sloganeering. In Jammu and Kashmir, militancy is on rise because of mishandling of affairs by BJP government."
