Goa CM releases commemorative 'IRONMAN 70.3' postal stamp, medal

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant released a special commemorative postal stamp called 'IRONMAN 70.3' and 'IRONMAN 70.3 Goa Fisher's medal' in Panaji on Thursday, October 17. According to reports, India Post has issued the stamps. Further, this is the first occasion in over 40 years of the IRONMAN history that India's postal department has extended their support. According to Sawant, he is delighted that IRONMAN 70.3 Goa is going to be held close on the heels of the Fit-India movement that was recently announced by Prime Minister Modi. The IRONMAN 70.3 Goa Half Distance Triathlon will be held in India for the first time on October 20, stated reports.

IRONMAN 70.3 Goa Finisher's medal

Along with the postal stamp, Goa CM has also released an 'IRONMAN 70.3 Goa Finisher's medal' for the 11-km race. According to reports, the concept behind the medal is to bring in the essence of Goa. The medal is inspired from three aspects of Goa- the lighthouse, the waves and the coconut palm fronds which are also symbolic to the three stages of the triathlon- bike, swim and run.

Geoff Meyer's comment

According to IRONMAN Asia's managing director, Geoff Meyer, India as a huge market is going through a fitness transformation. He further stated that just over the past few years, India has gone through tremendous sporting developments. Along with him, Deepak Raj, the 20-time Ironman and race director of the event stated that it was their dream to bring IRONMAN to India.

About IRONMAN Race

According to reports, the Ironman race in India will be held in Goa on October 20. According to the organizers, so far, around 1,000 registrations have been recorded. The participants will need to swim 1.9 km, cycle 90 km and run 21.1 km to complete the race. Further, the registrations were received from around 27 countries. Reports stated that the youngest participant registered for the race is 18-years-old, while the oldest participant is aged 61. Out of the 1,000 registrations, 10% are women, while 45 per cent of the participants are of aged 40 years or above.
