In a troubling development in Goa, a woman sub-inspector from the Goa police was booked on Friday for allegedly abetting the suicide of a local lawyer. The deceased, Advocate Jayant Prabhu, took his own life at his residence in Davorlim village near Margao on Thursday.
The incident unfolded following a raid conducted by a police team led by Sub-Inspector Anoushka Parab. The raid, aimed at locating Prabhu's son, Pritesh, who was wanted in connection with a molestation case filed by the Margao police, occurred just hours before Prabhu's death.
According to officials, Prabhu's family has accused Parab of being named in the suicide note left by the lawyer. In response to these allegations, the South Goa Lawyers Association organized a protest in front of the office of Deputy Superintendent of Police Santosh Desai, demanding the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) against Parab.
Following the protests and a formal complaint lodged by Prabhu's son, Ashish Prabhu, Sub-Inspector Anoushka Parab has been charged with abetment of suicide. Deputy SP Santosh Desai confirmed that the allegations against Parab will be thoroughly investigated.
The case has sparked significant controversy and raised questions about the conduct of law enforcement in sensitive matters. The Goa police are now under pressure to ensure a transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding Advocate Jayant Prabhu’s tragic death.
