Gokul town is being upgred in first phase of renovation and development works to boost tourism in Mathura district, an official of Uttar Presh Braj Teerth Vikas Parish said on Thursday. Gokul is town where Lord Krishna is said to have spent his childhood.

“Chief Minister Yogi ityanath decided to tap tourism potential present in Brij Bhumi by improving infrastructure equal to that of NCR [National Capital Region] area," Shailja Kant Mishra, Vice President of UP Braj Teerth Vikas Parish, said while talking to a group of media persons.

organisation has so far spent Rs 8 crore in Gokul town, Mishra said, ding that rituals like “Dhikana”, “Chunari Manorath” and “Chi Maar Holi” that are tritionally carried out in town would be attractive for international tourists once place is refurbished.

Nagendra Pratap, Chief Executive Officer of organisation, spoke about renovation of Thakurani Ghat, a raised platform at Chi Maar Holi playground, renovation of Nand Bhavan parking, refurbishing streets of Gokul with red sandstone, along with beautification of stairs of Nand Bhavan to Nand Chauk via Raas Chabutara.
