As per the govt notification, in cases of surrogacy, the surrogate, if she is a central government employee, will be entitled to 180 days of maternity leave.

New Delhi: In a big decision for its employees, the Central government has amended the Central Civil Services (Leave) Rules, 1972 which will now entitle the surrogate mother and the parents who adopt those child with child care leave.

The notification, confirming the same, was issued by the Department of Personnel & Training of Government of India last week. As per the notification, in cases of surrogacy, the surrogate, if she is a central government employee, will be eligible to get to 180 days of maternity leave.

Meanwhile, the presiding mother, if she is a central government employee, can also avail 180 days of maternity leave on the grounds of having less than two living children.

The Central Civil Services (Leave) Rules, 1972 benefits the central govt employees.

Along with the woman employees, Central govt has also announced to give its male employees paternity leave in case of surrogacy for a period of 15 days within six months of the birth of the child, on the condition that he has less than two living children.
