Pune: Daily commuters facing severe traffic congestion on Sinhagad Road can now look forward to smoother journeys following the inauguration of a new flyover near Rajaram Bridge. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar officially opened the 520-meter-long flyover on Thursday, marking a significant milestone in alleviating traffic woes on one of Pune's busiest routes.

The flyover, which has been under construction since September 2021, aims to streamline traffic flow and reduce congestion.

Describing the project as a “gift to Punekars” on Independence Day, Pawar highlighted its potential to save both time and fuel for daily travelers.

“The first phase of the flyover is now complete, and we are committed to expediting the second phase,” said Pawar. He emphasized that ongoing efforts are focused on mitigating traffic congestion through improved infrastructure, including roads and flyovers in Pune.

Despite the completion of construction in July, the opening of the flyover faced delays due to weather-related issues and logistical challenges, such as the closure of the asphalt plant. The final layer of asphalt was unable to be applied on time, pushing back the inauguration. Additionally, political protests and opposition criticism over the delay added to the complexities.

Pawar, who also serves as Pune's Guardian Minister, assured that work will continue in coordination with various local bodies, including the Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporations, Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), and Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA).
