Mumbai: In a relief for commuters, fuel prices have been slashed in Mumbai region (Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and Thane) on Friday. The reduction sees petrol prices down by Rs 0.65 per litre, while diesel prices have been cut by Rs 2 per litre. This development comes amidst fluctuating global oil markets and aims to ease the financial burden on consumers grappling with persistent inflationary pressures.
"Tax on diesel is being decreased from 24% to 21 % for Mumbai region, effectively 2 rupees per litre less prices of diesel. In Mumbai region, tax on Petrol being decreased from 26% to 25% which will effectively decrease rates of petrol by 65 Paise per litre", Deputy CM Ajit Pawar said while presenting the state Budget. Diesel and petrol will now be cheaper in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane region of Maharashtra.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar announced a financial assistance scheme entailing a monthly allowance of Rs 1,500 to eligible women in the age group of 21 to 60 years in the state Budget for 2024-25. Pawar, who holds the finance portfolio, said in his budget speech in the assembly that the scheme, "Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana", will be implemented from July, four months ahead of the state polls which are due in October.
An annual budgetary allocation of Rs 46,000 crore will be made for the scheme, he said. Announcing another welfare scheme, the finance minister said an eligible family of five will get three cooking gas cylinders free every year under the 'Mukhyamantri Annapurna Yojana'.
