New Delhi: As Delhi's air quality dipped into the 'Very Poor' category on Monday, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) announced that Stage Two of the Graded Response Action Plan will be implemented in Delhi-NCR starting at 8 am on October 22.

According to the CAQM, the Air Quality Index (AQI) is expected to remain in the 'Very Poor' range in the coming days due to unfavorable meteorological and climatic conditions, along with calm winds.

What’s Permitted Under GRAP Stage II in Delhi

  • Daily mechanical sweeping and water sprinkling will be carried out on specific roads
  • Residents urged to use public transport, regularly change air filters in their vehicles
  • Use technology, take less congested routes even if slightly longer

What’s Not Permitted Under GRAP Stage II in Delhi 

  • Open burning of solid waste and biomass
  • Dust-generating construction activities 
  • Usage of power generators discouraged

Air quality commission also said that parking fees should be increased so that people should refrain from using private vehicles. 

Earlier today, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Shakurpur and nearby areas of the capital was recorded at 346, classified as 'Very Poor,' according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Areas around India Gate reported an AQI of 309, also categorized as 'Very Poor.' In Safdarjung, the AQI stood at 307, similarly classified as 'Very Poor.'

Air Quality Index and Its Parameters 

An AQI between zero and 50 is considered good, 51 and 100 satisfactory, 101 and 200 moderate, 201 and 300 poor, 301 and 400 very poor, and 401 and 500 severe.
