Groom, Family Cancels Wedding, Kick, Punch Bride's Family Over Missing Fish, Mutton Dish in Menu
A groom along with his family allegedly called off his wedding at Deoria in Uttar Pradesh after fish and mutton on the menu went missing.

Deoria: A groom Abhishek Sharma along with his family allegedly called off his wedding at Deoria in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday after fish and mutton on the menu went missing, despite a vast vegetarian spread. The groom's family, who were allegedly paid rupees five lakhs in dowry, kicked, punched and thrashed the bride's family with sticks.
After the wedding was called off, the bride's family lodged a complaint of assault and dowry against the groom with the police.

The incident occurred after the varmala (exchange of garlands) ceremony. The groom's father Surendra Sharma and others allegedly began hurling abuses at the bride's family over the lack of a non-vegetarian menu.

A wedding was called off, and four people, including the groom, were arrested after an argument broke out over sitting in front of a desert cooler here, police said on Saturday. The incident occurred on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday in a village at Balia, they said.
According to police, an argument broke out between the attendees of the wedding over the seating arrangement in front of a desert cooler during the function. Questioning the behaviour of the groom's relatives, the bride refused to marry the groom, SHO Pankaj Jaiswal said.

A case was registered under section 126 (wrongful restraint) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Jaiswal said. The groom, Hukum Chand Jaiswal, his relative Pankaj, the bride's father, Nand Ji Gupta and her brother Rajesh Gupta were arrested in the case. (with PTI inputs)
