Gujarat Rains: Toll Rises to 30 as Thousands Stranded; PM Dials CM, Assures Aid | Top Points

Dwarka: Gujarat continues to grapple with heavy rains and a massive flood situation, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a 'red' alert for the state. According to the weather agency, the deep depression over Saurashtra and Kachchh is expected to intensify in the coming days, which is likely to move towards the northeast Arabian Sea, bringing heavy rainfall across the region. The death toll in the rain-related incident rose to 28, as per reports. Following the rain fury, several thousands have been evacuated.

Following the situation, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel conducted a video conference from the State Emergency Operation Center and reviewed the rescue and relief operations in the rain-affected areas. In a post on X, Patel said, "The priority of the state government is to provide food packets, drinking water pouches and healthcare medicines to the people who are trapped in the flood until the water recedes. Not only this, the affected districts where the power supply has been disrupted are being promptly restored."

Further in the post, the CM stated that he has instructed officials to be on alert and prepared keeping in mind the upcoming forecast of the Meteorological Department.

• The IMD has issued a red alert for Gujarat, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall. As per the weather department, heavy showers are expected in 12 districts- Kachchh, Devbhoomi Dwarka, Jamnagar, Morbi, Surendranagar, Rajkot, Porbandar, Junagarh, Gir Somnath, Amreli, Bhavnagar, and Botad.
• Following the rain havoc, Prime Minister Narendra Modi again on Wednesday had a telephone conversation with the Gujarat CM and assured him of all support and possible assistance from the Centre.

"As it has been raining heavily for the last three days across Gujarat, Hon'ble Prime Minister Mr. @narendramodi ji once again had a telephonic conversation with me this morning to get information about the situation. He learned about the relief measures for the affected people of various districts of the state. Expressing concern over the flooding of the Vishwamitri river in Vadodara, he sought details of the relief and assistance being provided to the affected people. The Hon'ble Prime Minister gave guidance on matters including sanitation and public health in the flooded areas and to restore public life quickly, and once again assured all support from the Central Government," the CM said in post.

• The state relief commissioner Alok Pandey said that some 40,000 people have been evacuated from the flood-affected areas. 
• As per a report by PTI, districts in the Saurashtra region including Jamnagar, Rajkot, and Devbhoomi Dwarka received rain between 50mm and 200mm in 12 hours. Meanwhile, Bhanvad taluka of Devbhumi Dwarka district received 185 mm of rainfall during this period, making it the highest in the state.

While moving W-SW over the northeast Arabian Sea away from the Indian coast, there is a possibility of its temporary and marginal intensification over the northeast Arabian Sea on 30th August.”
• According to NDRF inspector Manjit, the team has rescued some 95 people in the flood-like situation in Gujarat. "In the last 2 days, there has been heavy rainfall in Dwarka...water has entered into the houses of people...our team rescued 95 people so far," he told ANI.
