Gujarat Shocker: Woman Panchayat Member Beaten, Hair Cut in Public Over Affair Allegations; One Held

Tapi: A woman taluka panchayat member was assaulted, and her hair was chopped off by a group of people in Gujarat 's Tapi district over an alleged affair following which police arrested one person, police reported on Sunday.

Urmila Gamit, a member of the Songadh taluka panchayat, was attacked by a woman and three men and beaten with a hockey stick on Saturday evening. According to an official from Songadh police station, "The assaulters beat her with a hockey stick and cut her hair."

The attack took place in public while Urmila was heading home on a two-wheeler with her daughter. One of the attackers, Sobhna Gamit, "accused Urmila of having illicit relations with her husband."

Accompanied by three men, including her son, Sobhna assaulted Urmila, resulting in a fracture in her left arm and injuries to her waist and head, the police said. "They also snatched her gold pendant before fleeing," added the police.

Urmila was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Based on her complaint, an FIR was registered, and one person was arrested, police confirmed.
