New Delhi: Amid the ongoing probe in the Gurugram road accident,  Kuldeep Thakur, the accused driver of XUV 3XO reportedly admitted to police that he chose to drive on the wrong side of Golf Course Road in DLF Phase-II to 'save time'. For the unversed, a 22-year-old boy Akshat Garg was killed was the SUV coming from the wrong side collided with his bike.

Speaking to ANI, ACP DLF Gurugram, Vikas Kaushik said, "The Gurugram police stands with the victim's family. We will take whatever action is needed under the law." He noted that the accused claimed to have driven on the wrong side to save time. However, no point can justify driving on the wrong side.

The police have come under the radar for allegedly giving the accused "special treatment." However, Kaushik dismissed all the claims, asserting, "There is no question of giving special treatment or concession to anyone at any moment, as in such cases, we investigate through SOPs. No special treatment or concession has been given to anyone."

He further assured the victim's family, stating, "If the family still feels some suspicion, we request them to meet us, and we will tell them everything, will show the files and tell them about the procedures to satisfy that an independent investigation is being conducted."

'Why Are Police Not Helping Us?'

Meanwhile, Garg's mother has accused the police of not helping them. "I want justice for my son. A person in the wrong killed my son. My only question is why was he released on bail? My son has gone but he (the accused) slept peacefully that night… Why are the police not helping us?" she asked.

Visuals from an action camera mounted on the motorcycle of Garg's friend became widely circulated on social media on Thursday.

The video purports to show Garg riding his motorcycle at high speed. He is seen taking a slight turn when the Mahindra XUV 3XO suddenly appears from the wrong side and collides head-on with his motorcycle. The high-speed collision threw Garg off his motorcycle and wrecked the front of the SUV.

SHO Kumar said an FIR was registered on the basis of a complaint by one Pradhuman, a friend of the victim, under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Garg's body was handed over to his kin after a post-mortem. "The family of the victim has not approached us to add any additional charge in the case yet," Kumar said.
