Kolkata: Protesting junior doctors, demanding justice for the R G Kar medic who was brutally raped and murdered on August 9, almost three months ago, expressed dissatisfaction with the CBI's handling of the investigation. On Friday, Junior Doctors announced a series of protests, said that they are not happy with the progress of the probe.
The CBI took over the investigation following an order from the Calcutta High Court, and the central agency recently submitted a charge sheet in the case. However, the West Bengal Junior Doctors' forum also raised questions regarding the chargesheet, noting that it only named one individual, who had already been arrested by local police prior to the CBI's involvement. The doctors believe that other potential suspects and aspects of the case may not have been properly investigated.

Doctors to Hold Rally on Nov 9
Forum spokesperson Debashis Halder shared details of the upcoming demonstrations during a press conference at R G Kar Hospital. He said that junior doctors and civil society members would hold a rally in Kolkata on November 9, moving from College Square to Esplanade. Similar rallies are planned across various regions of West Bengal, with protesters demanding justice for the slain medical student.
A mass convention is also set to take place on November 9 at Rani Rashmoni Avenue, where attendees will raise their concerns over the investigation's handling. Furthermore, Halder urged people throughout Bengal to light lamps in remembrance of the victim on November 4.

"We are also giving a call to light lamps at every locality of Bengal on November 4," Halder said.
He said that the junior doctors feel from media reports that the role of other perpetrators of the crime has not been fully spelt out in the CBI charge sheet which only named one person directly involved in the crime.

"Has the role of other arrested persons including former (RG Kar hospital) principal Sandip Ghosh been entirely investigated?" Halder asked.
