Himanta Biswa Sarma, NEDA Conver and Assam's Finance Minister, has demanded a re-verification of final National Register of Citizens (NRC) list for Assam that was released on Saturday. According to him, a lot of names were allegedly excluded in final NRC list because of 'manipulation' of legacy data.

Sarma has also alleged that several Indians were excluded as authorities have refused to accept refugee certificates as documents. He has demanded a 20 percent reverification on bordering districts. In a tweet, he also stated that authorities have refused to accept refugee certificates of those who have migrated from Banglesh prior to 1971.

Assam government releases final NRC list
Assam government on Saturday released its final NRC list. A total of 3.29 crore people h applied for NRC, with just over 3.11 crore making it to final list. This meant that just over 19 lakh names were excluded, including those who h t me ir submissions. Those whose names are t yet in NRC have a number of recourses available to m, including High Courts and Supreme Court, with Foreigners Tribunal (FS) being only ncy that can deem someone a foreigner. Union Information and Brocasting Minister Prakash Javekar stated on Saturday that excluded persons from NRC final list can make an appeal in court. He furr assured m that justice will be rendered in matter.
