Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Saturday said that Congress president Sonia Gandhi was happy with the party's performance in the Haryana assembly elections. Hooda, after meeting Sonia Gandhi said, "She said it was a good performance, she is happy." In the 90-member Haryana assembly, the Congress won 31 seats, the BJP got 40 seats and the 11-month old JJP won 10 seats in its debut assembly polls.

Hopes of an alliance dashed
After Haryana's fractured mandate kept BJP six seats away from an absolute majority on Thursday, Congress' leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda had proposed an alliance with the Dushyant Chautala-led JJP to form the government. Hooda, speaking to media, minutes after Chautala's declaration on Friday that it will back any party that agrees to its demand, said that he has already agreed to the Common Minimum Program of JJP. Although now, Congress's hopes are dashed.

BJP-JJP to take power
After sealing a deal with Dushyant Chautala's Jannayak Janata Party (JJP), BJP's Manohar Lal Khattar along with Chautala has handed over a letter to the Haryana Governor staking their claim to form the next government on Saturday. Speaking to media, Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar said that the JJP-BJP alliance has submitted a letter of intent to the Governor, which has been accepted by the governor. He also said that he has submitted a resignation letter as the term of the old Cabinet has ended. Khattar informed that the Chief Minister and the Deputy CM will take the oath at Raj Bhavan on Sunday at 2 pm.

BJP-JJP alliance
As the poll result of Haryana gave a fractured mandate on Thursday, BJP President Amit Shah on Friday announced that BJP and JJP have sealed an alliance to form the next Haryana government. Addressing a press briefing at his residence, along with BJP working president JP Nadda and BJP Haryana in-charge Anil Jain, BJP Haryana Chief Subhash Barala, Union Minister Anurag Thakur, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, and JJP's Dushyant Chautala, Shah said that JJP will get the Deputy CM post but did not mention Chautala's name.
"Thanking the people of Haryana for its mandate, I inform you that BJP and JJP will form the next government in the state. JJP and many independents have supported us. In the next government, the Chief Minister will be of BJP and Deputy CM will be from JJP," Amit Shah said.
