Hyderabad: Chaotic situation prevailed in Hyderabad after several BJP leaders, including Madhavi Latha, were detained while protesting against the alleged vandalisation of an idol at a temple. The vandalisation incident came to light earlier in the day after an idol was found damaged at a temple in Secunderabad. 

While speaking to reporters while protesting, Madhavi Latha said, "They are taking me to the jail for protesting over the vandalisation of mata's idol. We are ready for this"

Following the incident, a large number of people gathered near the premises of the place of worship demanding stern action against the perpetrators.

According to sources, the idol at the Muthyalamma temple was was allegedly desecrated and one person was taken into custody in connection with the incident, news agency PTI citing a senior police official reported.

Meanwhile, Union Minister and Telangana BJP president G Kishan Reddy visited the Mutyalamma temple and demanded a thorough probe into the incident.

"I demand a thorough inquiry into it and punish those who damaged the idol. It is the state government's responsibility to provide security to Hindu temples," Kishan Reddy demanded.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mahankali division, said " A Muthyalamma temple idol in Kurmaguda near a passport office in Hyderabad was allegedly vandalised and locals caught one individual and handed them over to police under Market police station limits. Police are currently at the spot."

A large number of police personnel were deployed near the temple. Following the incident, security has been beefed up in the area and efforts are underway to restore calm.

Further investigation into the matter was underway.
