Ayodhya: Israel's Ambassador to India, Reuven Azar, took a moment to visit the iconic Ram Temple in Ayodhya on Wednesday with his wife. The visit saw the ambassador reflecting on India's deep-rooted cultural and spiritual traditions.

Ambassador Azar spoke about being moved by the devotion of the pilgrims and worshippers at the temple. “I am honoured to visit this magnificent temple dedicated to Lord Ram. The sheer number of pilgrims and their deep devotion is truly inspiring,” he told ANI.

Drawing connections between the two ancient civilizations, Azar emphasised the significance of faith and heritage. “Both Israel and India are nations with ancient religions, traditions, and a proud heritage. Just as we take pride in ours, I see the same strength and devotion in your people, which gives a sense of unity and resilience,” he said.

The ambassador’s visit was a gesture of cultural engagement, underscoring his desire to connect with India on a deeper level. “As an ambassador, it’s essential to understand the heart of the country, and that’s why I am here with my wife—to experience the culture and heritage of India in a more profound way.”

Strengthening India-Israel Ties

A day earlier, Ambassador Azar had met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow, where they discussed deepening ties between Israel and the state. Despite the pressing concerns of war back home, Azar reaffirmed Israel’s commitment to strengthening its relationship with India, particularly Uttar Pradesh.

Chief Minister Adityanath, in a post on X, expressed his optimism after their meeting. “Had a highly fruitful and meaningful discussion with Mr. Reuven Azar, Ambassador of Israel to India. This meeting marks another step towards strengthening the deep bond between UP and Israel in areas of mutual interest," he wrote.

The discussions also highlight Israel's intent to explore new avenues of cooperation that would benefit the people of Uttar Pradesh.
