'If Bengal Burns, So Will Delhi': Under Fire Mamata Fearmongers Amid Protest Over Kolkata Horror

Kolkata/New Delhi: In an attempt to fearmonger, under fire West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who has been facing flak over the rape and murder of a 31-year-old doctor at RG Kar hospital has warned of consequences 'if unrest continues in West Bengal'. “If you burn Bengal, then the North East, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, and other states will also face the flames,” Banerjee said while addressing a public event to mark the foundation day of Trinamool Congress's students' wing. 

“Some people are thinking , this is Bangladesh. Please remember, I love Bangladesh, they speak like us, and their culture is the same as ours, but remember, Bangladesh is a separate nation and India is a separate nation. Mr. Modi, you're using your party to cause fire over here. Remember, if you burn Bengal, Assam, North-Eash, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and Delhi too shall burn! We will topple your chair”, Mamata said in an apparent threat. 

Do What You Think Would Be The Best: When Mamata Calls For Violence

"When we came to power, we used the slogan ,' Badla noy, bodol chai' (We want change, not Revenge), today I'm telling you something different, do what you think would be the best. I don't want violence , but if someone is plotting against you and biting you, you may not bite them back but you would at least hiss at them, is it not? A snake asked Ramkrishna Paramhans, sire you forbade me to bite anyone but there are many who throw rocks at me , bleed me. I'm hurt. To which Ramkrishna Thakur replied, I've asked you not to bite but you can always hiss at them. Your job is to remove the mask of those who plot against us and hiss at them. Learn to hiss at them."

Mamata Govt Under Fire Over Brutal Rape-Murder of 31-Year-Old Doctor

Meanwhile, the Mamata-led TMC government has been under fire ever since the police recovered the body of the woman's postgraduate trainee doctor from the seminar hall of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.  

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has also escalated its criticism of Mamata Banerjee, accusing her of shielding those behind the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata. The BJP has even labelled Banerjee a “dictator” and is demanding her immediate resignation to ensure an unbiased investigation into the case.

At a press conference at the BJP headquarters, national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia expressed grave concerns about the situation in West Bengal. “Whatever is happening in West Bengal is worrisome. It’s akin to tearing the Constitution to shreds. It’s clearly visible that if at all there is a dictator in the country, it’s Mamata Banerjee,” Bhatia said, highlighting the party’s frustration with the current state administration. 

Bengal Bandh

The Calcutta High Court dismissed a plea against the 12-hour 'Bangla Bandh' called by the BJP since the petitioner was debarred perpetually from filing public interest litigations (PIL) before the court in a previous order. Petitioner Sanjoy Das, who claimed to be a lawyer practising at the high court, sought that the bandh be declared illegal.

A division bench, presided by Chief Justice T S Sivagnanam, dismissed the PIL, as the court in its previous order perpetually debarred Das from presenting any PIL. The bench, also comprising Justice Hiranmay Bhattacharyya, in that order rejected Das's PIL, where it held that he had made false statements about himself in that petition, seeking a change of roster of a particular judge presiding over police inaction/overaction matters.

The bench also imposed a cost of Rs 50,000 on Das in connection with that petition.

Maintaining that the petitioner has abused the process of this court, attempted to intimidate the office of the chief justice and made false statements about himself, the court dismissed the petition with exemplary cost.

The statewide shutdown, which began at 6 am, was called by the BJP in protest against Tuesday's police action on participants of 'Nabanna Abhijan' or march to the secretariat, organised by the newly formed students' group Chatra Samaj over the rape and murder of the doctor at RG Kar hospital.
