IIT Bombay bestows Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) Degree on Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani

Apart from being Co-founder of Infosys Techlogies Limited, Bangalore, he is also a former Chairman of UIDAI, Government of India. IIT's decision to confer him with doctorate degree comes after his meticulous and outstanding work as an industrialist and an vocate of social development with use of techlogy. Chief Guest for IIT Bombay's 57th convocation ceremony was Minister of Human Resource Development Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank':

Nandan Nilekani is Co-founder and Chairman of EkStep, a t-for-profit effort to create a learner-centric, techlogy-based platform to improve basic literacy and numeracy for millions of children. He was most recently Chairman of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) in rank of a Cabinet Minister. Nandan Nilekani was previously co-chairman, Infosys Techlogies Limited, which he co-founded in 1981.

Born in Bengaluru, Nilekani received his Bachelor’s degree from IIT, Bombay. Fortune Magazine conferred him with “Asia’s Businessman of year 2003”. In 2005 he received prestigious Joseph Schumpeter prize for invative services in ecomy, ecomic sciences and politics. In 2006, he was awarded Pma Bhushan. He was also named Businessman of year by Forbes Asia. Time magazine listed him as one of 100 most influential people in world in 2006 & 2009. Foreign Policy magazine listed him as one of Top 100 Global thinkers in 2010. He won Ecomist Social & Ecomic Invation Award for his leership of India’s Unique Identification initiative (Ahaar). In 2017, he received Lifetime Achievement Award from E & Y. He also received 22nd Nikkei Asia Prize for Ecomic & Business Invation 2017.
Nandan Nilekani is author of “Imagining India” and co- authored his second book with Viral Shah, “Rebooting India: Realizing a Billion Aspirations”.
