IIT Bombay pays tribute to its distinguished alumnus Manohar Parrikar, highlights his involvement with another IIT as well

IIT Bombay h conveyed shock at demise of Goa CM Mahar Parrikar. former Defence Minister was an alumnus from rewned institute.

He gruated in metallurgical engineering from IIT-Bombay.

Here is institute's statement on late Goa CM's death:

"Goa Chief Minister Mr. Mahar Parrikar's demise comes as a shock to all of us at IIT Bombay. He was Institute's Distinguished Alumnus and keenly involved with many initiatives at IIT Bombay. He was also deeply involved with launch of IIT Goa. 

He was Chief Guest for 55th Convocation of IIT Bombay held on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 10.00 am at Institute’s Convocation Hall. Institute condoles his demise.

Parrikar passed away at his private residence on Sunday evening, and his body was kept re during entire night. “ mortal remains would be brought to BJP office in morning where y will be kept for one hour before taking m to Kala Acemy premises,” BJP Goa spokesman said.

His mortal remains to be taken to Kala Acemy from BJP office for public to pay ir final respects.

mortal remains would n be taken for cremation at Miramar beach, next to memorial of first Goa Chief Minister Dayanand Bandodkar who was cremated re. 

Parrikar, 63, h passed away on Sunday evening after his year-long fight with pancreatic ailment.

central government has anunced national mourning on Monday, officials earlier said. national flag will fly at half-mast across country.

Goa government anunced on Sunday that it would observe seven days of state mourning, from March 18, 2019 to March 24, 2019.

A statement from government said:

" Government has expressed profound sorrow on s demise of Chief Minister Shri Mahar Parrikar, in state of Goa on March 17, 2019.  As a mark of respect to departed dignitary, seven days State Mourning will be observed throughout state of Goa from 18/03/2019 to 24/03/2019 both days inclusive. During period of State Mourning National Flag will fly at Half Mast on all buildings throughout state of Goa where it is regularly flown and re will be official entertainment."
