IIT Madras suicide case: 'Culprit will be charged,' says D Jayakumar

The organising secretary of the AIADMK and Tamil Nadu’s Cabinet Minister, D Jayakumar, on Saturday has stated that an inquiry will be conducted in the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras student death case. Jayakumar further stated that strict action will be taken against the person responsible. Jayakumar stated to ANI that "Abdul Latheef, the father of Fathima Latheef, has raised some questions and had met Chief Minister and DGP of the state. He himself said he has faith in State Government. The inquiry will be made and the culprit will be charged."

'Fathima should be the last victim for such harassment anywhere in the country'

In the alleged suicide case of Fathima Latheef in IIT Madras, her father, Abdul Latheef, while speaking to the Republic TV at Kollam said, "Fathima should be the last victim for such harassment anywhere in the country, no parents should lose another Fathima." Fathima Latheef's father, with tears in his eyes, made his statements a day after the last rites of his daughter. While speaking to Republic TV, Fathima's father showed the visuals of Malayalam channels who had made a story on Fathima's journey into IIT. He said, "Fathima was a brave girl, she always took the right decision. We want to know who and what pushed her to this extent which decided her to end her life. She had a lot of dreams, a lot of aspirations to achieve."

Fathima's twin sister Ayeesha Latheef said, "She has definitely been harassed. We don't want to come to a conclusion as to what kind of harassment it was and the police should find it out. People are making it communal. We don't want to talk anything about it. But we want the real culprits to be arrested and my sister Fathima should get justice at any cost." Meanwhile, Fathima's mother Sajitha Latheef said, "They killed my daughter, she doesn't have any reason to die. The police should arrest everyone and put them behind the bars."

Chennai Police formed special Central Crime Bureau team

The Chennai Police have formed a special Central Crime Bureau team to probe the matter under ADC Meglina, an investigation officer. The team has been questioning the alleged professor Sudharsan Padmanabhan, other faculties and students for the last two days inside the IIT Madras campus. They were asked to not move out without the permission of the police, but no arrests have been made in the case as of now, as the questioning is still on.
