In the alleged suicide case of Fathima Latheef in IIT Madras, her father, Abdul Latheef, while speaking to the Republic TV at Kollam said, "Fathima should be the last victim for such harassment anywhere in the country, no parents should lose another Fathima." Fathima Latheef's father with tears in his eyes made his statements a day after the last rites of his daughter.
While speaking to Republic TV, Fathima's father showed the visuals of Malayalam channels who had made a story on Fathima's journey into IIT. He said "Fathima was a brave girl, she always took the right decision. We want to know who and what pushed her to this extent which decided her to end her life. She had a lot of dreams, a lot of aspirations to achieve."
Fathima's twin sister's comment
Fathima's twin sister Ayeesha Latheef said "She has definitely been harassed. We don't want to come to a conclusion as to what kind of harassment it wasm the police should find it out. People are making it communal. We don't want to talk anything about it. But we want the real culprits to be arrested and my sister Fathima should get justice at any cost." Meanwhile, Fathima's mother Sajitha Latheef said "They killed my daughter, she doesn't have any reason to die. The police should arrest everyone and put them behind the bars."
Victim's father and relatives meet TN CM
Fathima's father and a few relatives are in Chennai where they met the Tamil Nadu chief minister, the DGP and the DMK President, MK Stalin on Friday. "She was always afraid of a certain professor. The notes which she left in her phone had the name of the professor and other few other faculty members. We have given the details to the DGP and I trust them fully. The DGP has promised an unbiased fair probe and he said that he will make sure that the police will arrest the culprits, whoever it may be," said Abdul Lathief after meeting the State Police Chief.
MK Stalin's comment
DMK president MK Stalin after the meeting with the victim's father, Abdul Latheef, tweeted, "IIT Student Fathima Latheef‘s death is not a suicide. The questions raised by her family indicates that there are many mysteries surrounding her death. The family should get justice and those responsible should immediately be arrested. TN Govt should show that they stand on the side of truth."
Meanwhile, the Chennai police has formed a special Central Crime Bureau team to probe the matter under ADC Meglina, an investigation officer. The team has been questioning the alleged professor Sudharsan Padmanabhan, other faculties and students for last two days inside the IIT Madras campus. They were asked to not move out without the permission of the police, but no arrests have been made in the case as of now, as the questioning is still on.
