IMD: India Records Highest Ever Rain In Monsoon Season Since 1994

As the monsoon season officially ended on Monday, India Meteorological Department stated that the country had recorded the highest monsoon rainfall since 1994

As monsoon season officially ended on Monday, India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that country h recorded highest monsoon rainfall since 1994. It classified rains as ‘above rmal’. But monsoon is still active over several parts of country. According to IMD, longest delayed withdrawal of rain-bearing winds could be witnessed this year.

Excess rainfall after a sluggish start 

Recently, west Mhya Presh and Saurashtra and Kutch, two divisions out of 36 meteorological sub-divisions of IMD registered precipitation in “large excess”. onset of monsoon was very late in 2019, nearly a week later after its rmal arrival date. It continued to be sluggish in month of June. Basically, re was a 33% rainfall deficiency towards end of June. However, rainfall tremendously increased in July. It was 33% more rainfall than rmal. This trend continued in August too, that witnessed 15% more rainfall than rmal. September has also broken record rainfall in regions such as Maharashtra.

Tremendous dam 

In last 4 days, almost 110 people have died in India due to rain-related incidents. Uttar Presh has recorded maximum number of deaths-79 since Thursday. Officials suggested that three women drowned in Rajkot district on Saturday after ir car swept away at a flooded causeway. On or hand, states like Uttarakhand, Mhya Presh, and Rajasthan reported almost 13 deaths. According to IMD Director General Mritunjay Mohapatra, monsoon was unlikely to withdraw even till weekend.

Patna affected

Bihar has suffered significant dam in last few days. Most areas of capital city Patna are under knee-deep water. People have been struggling to le a rmal life. Even affluent areas like Rajendra Nagar and Pataliputra colony have been flooded. Hospitals and medical shops have also been bly affected. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has alrey rescued more than 4,000 stranded people in Patna.
