IMD issues 'orange alert' in Kerala, Karnataka as heavy rains lash

IMD issued an 'orange alert' for heavy rains in Kerala and Karnataka and directed the administration of the states to take action, following rivers overflowing

Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an 'orange alert' for heavy rains in Kerala and Karnataka as heavy rains are lashing states causing floods due to overflowing of rivers. According to wear forecast ncy, as rth-East monsoon has become active, States are witnessing heavy downpour. IMD has directed  ministration of states to take necessary action. According to reports, an orange alert by IMD states "be prepared to face any situation arising out of severe wear condition".

Rivers overflowing above danger level

According to IMD, river Ghatprabha at Gokak falls in Belgaum district of Karnataka was flowing at 542.02 meters, which is above its danger level of 542.00 meters, causing floods in several parts of state. With this, river Krishna at Navalgund in Dharw district of Karnataka is also flowing above danger level. It is flowing at 565.95 meters, above its danger level of 564 meters. Furr, in Kerala, river Pamba at Thumpamon and river Kaveri at Palakdavu are flowing above danger level. While river Pamba is flowing 10.55 meters above its danger level of 10 meters, river Kaveri is flowing 0.73 meters above its danger mark of 6.9 meters.

IMD forecast

wear forecast ncy has predicted heavy rainfall over Karnataka and Kerala for next few days. districts which have got an IMD alert include Kollam, Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakk, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayan, Kannur and Kasargod.

Water-logging in Pune

Meanwhile, heavy rains caused water-logging in several parts of Pune on Tuesday morning. According to reports, Kondhwa and Sahakar Nagar areas in Pune recorded 51.50 mm and 47.00 mm of rainfall. Furr reports stated that a bus carrying 23 passengers was stuck in waterlogged area due to heavy rainfall. Fire officials visited spot to help people. Along with it, a few houses at BT Kavde Ro in city were also affected by heavy rains. Pune is likely to receive more rains accompanied by a thunderstorm on Wednesday, stated Indian Meteorological Department's (IMD) report.
