IMD Issues Yellow Alert in Kerala, Orange in Maharashtra, Odisha | Check Details

Heavy Rains Forecast Across India | Image: X

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red alert for Gujarat’s Saurashtra and Kutch regions, predicting extremely heavy rainfall in the coming days. The weather department has also issued an Orange alert for Odisha and several parts of Karnataka, including Coastal and South Interior Karnataka, warning of very heavy downpours this week. IMD has forecast heavy rain for Kerala, Himachal Pradesh, and Maharashtra, issuing yellow alerts for these regions.

Red Alert in Gujarat, Daily Life Affected

Gujarat is already dealing with severe weather conditions, with heavy rains continuing to lash the state. Roads are waterlogged, causing significant disruptions to daily life. As the rain fury continued on Thursday, the death toll from rain-related incidents rose to 26, with 19 more lives lost in the past 24 hours.

The state has been severely affected by the ongoing downpours, with over 17,800 people evacuated from flood-hit areas on Wednesday alone. The IMD has forecast more extremely heavy rains in isolated areas of Saurashtra on Thursday.

In the past 12 hours leading up to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, districts in the Saurashtra region, including Devbhumi Dwarka, Jamnagar, Rajkot, and Porbandar, received between 50mm and 200mm of rainfall. Bhanvad taluka in Devbhumi Dwarka district recorded the highest rainfall in the state, with 185mm during this period.

IMD Predicts Heavy Rainfall in Several States

In addition to Gujarat, the IMD has also predicted heavy rainfall for coastal areas, including Maharashtra, Goa, and Kerala. In Mumbai, the IMD has issued a Yellow alert, forecasting heavy to moderate rains. The temperature in Mumbai today, is 28.45°C, with a minimum and maximum temperature of 26.99°C and 28.65°C, respectively. The relative humidity stands at 81%, and the wind speed is 81 km/h. The sun rose at 6:23 AM and will set at 6:56 PM.

In Himachal Pradesh and Odisha, the IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall. Odisha is expected to experience significant downpours on August 29 and 30, which could disrupt daily life.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan is also expected to see heavy rainfall in isolated areas on August 29.
