Dehradun: India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday said that light to moderate rainfall is expected in several parts of Uttarakhand adding that a yellow alert warning has been issued for Pithorgarh and Bageshwar districts.

“At the same time, light to moderate rain is expected to occur in Dehradun, Haridwar, Pauri, Tehri, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, and Uttarkashi districts.Earlier on September 26, a road connecting Budhakedar and Jhalabeen villages in Tehri Garhwal district was damaged due to the heavy rains here,” IMD said.

What is Yellow Alert

According to IMD, Yellow alert indicates severely bad weather spanning across several days. It also suggests that the weather could change for the worse, causing disruption in day-to-day activities.

Earlier on Thursday, a section of the Badrinath National Highway was blocked due to debris accumulation near Nandprayag and Chatwapipal. However, the highway has since been cleared for vehicular traffic following repairs. This monsoon season, the Badrinath Highway has experienced multiple closures due to adverse weather conditions.

Meanwhile, heavy rains caused damage to the road connecting Budhakedar and Jhalabeen villages in the Tehri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand. District Disaster Management Officer Brijesh Bhatt stated that the damage occurred but there were no injuries or fatalities. However, an earth-moving machine was affected.

“The PMGSY-reconstructed road in the Budhakedar area was damaged due to the rain that fell overnight on Wednesday into Thursday. A Pokelin machine was also damaged. The road from Budhakedar to Jhala has been affected, but there has been no loss of life or livestock,” Brijesh Bhatt said.
