Crucial Moonsoon situation in India
The population of more than 8,869,768 is affected by flood and landslide, nearly 1,155 people are reported to be dead across India due to monsoon related incidents as per the latest report of the National Emergency Response Centre, Ministry of Home Affairs, released on 26th August 2019. The rains from June to September are a lifeline for rural India, delivering some 70 percent of the country's rainfall, but they also cause death and destruction each year. Maharashtra and Gujarat along with Karnataka and Kerala were among the hardest hit by the floods that damaged rail lines, roads, and hectares of summer-sown crops. At least 95 people were killed and more than 50 are missing in Kerala, where heavy rainfall triggered dozens of landslides last week and trapped more than 100 others. Among the northern Indian states Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab and Maharashtra are the flood-affected states.
