IMD warns fishermen to not venture into South West Bay of Bengal

The Indian Meteorological Department's South Zone Head on Tuesday has warned the fishermen to not venture in areas situated near the South West Bay of Bengal.

The Indian Meteorological Department's (IMD) South Zone Head on Tuesday has warned the fishermen to not venture in areas situated near the South West Bay of Bengal. According to the Deputy Director-General of Meteorology, S Balachandran, the fishermen are advised not go in areas of Mannar, Maldives, Lakshadweep, South Kerala and South Tamil Nadu from October 29 to October 31.

According to Balachandran, within the next 24 hours, it is expected to form a depression and further, a deep depression as a low-pressure area over Sri Lanka on Monday moved towards Kumarian sea today and formed as a well-marked low-pressure area. Further, he also informed that due to the weather system, a widespread rainfall occurred over Tamil Nadu in which Thiruvaarur received 7 centimetres and Mahabalipuram received six centimetres, the most. The weather forecasting agency on Tuesday has predicted a heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Kerala & Mahe and Lakshadweep.

ICG gears up for SAR: Cyclone Kyarr

In another weather update, the Indian Coast Guard has undertaken all the preparations of Search and Rescue (SAR) on Saturday as the Cyclone Kyarr was just merely 200 km away from west of the Ratnagiri region of Maharashtra. According to reports, the cyclone is currently, centred in the east-central Arabian Sea. Currently, the cyclone is moving towards west-northwest direction and is located in the Arabian Sea. According to reports, on Saturday, the Coast Guard has positioned 4 of its Dornier aircraft at the Coast Guard Air Enclave to increase its surface assets. It has also has deployed 10 ships and 2 Chetak helicopters to carry out any necessary SAR operations. The Dornier aircraft of the ICG is undertaking frequent sorties to search for any stranded fishing boats in the sea.
