Even as Donald Trump said that Kashmir is bilateral issue, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday addressed his nation on Kashmir. Speaking at his briefing, Khan claimed that it was due to Pakistan that international community is speaking about Kashmir. Imran Khan said: "Our victory is that we have internationalised this issue. UN meeting made it internationalised. They have got cautious. We told International media and International media has also picked it up."

"We spoke about Kashmir last night. The Prime Minister has said that he has it under control. He has said that he will speak with Pakistan Prime Minister. Something good will come out of it," said Trump. Adding to President Trump's statement, PM Modi clarified his stance saying, "India and Pakistan have many bilateral relations. When I called Pakistan PM Imran Khan after the elections, I had told him that both India and Pakistan have to fight against poverty. Pakistan and India have to fight illiteracy and diseases. I had told both Imran Khan and Trump that both nations need to unitedly tackle these issues."

• UN chief invoked Simla Pact, calls Kashmir a bilateral issue: Earlier, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has urged India and Pakistan to exercise "maximum restraint" and refrain from taking steps that could affect the status of Jammu and Kashmir. • India tells China it is an internal issue: Pakistan formally called for an emergency meeting of the UNSC to discuss India revoking the special status to Jammu and Kashmir, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said on Thursday. Last Friday, Qureshi had air-dashed to Beijing for urgent consultations with the Chinese leadership on the issue of raising the Kashmir issue at the UNSC. During his meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Monday in Beijing, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar conveyed that India's decision to revoke the special status of Jammu and Kashmir was an internal matter. He said the issue related to changes in a temporary provision of the Constitution of India and was the sole prerogative of the country. Jaishankar emphasised to Wang that these changes had no bearing on Pakistan as it was an internal matter. "It did not impact the LoC. Where India Pakistan relations are concerned, Chinese side should base its assessment on realities. India, as a responsible power, had shown restraint in face of provocative Pakistani rhetoric and actions. India has always stood for normalisation of the ties in an atmosphere free of terror," the minister said. 
   
• Russia slams Pakistan: Russia's deputy permanent representative, Dimitry Polyanskiy told reporters before entering the meeting room that Moscow's view is that it is a "bilateral issue" between India and Pakistan. He said the meeting was being held to understand what is happening. "That's what closed consultations are for. What does Russia think the next step should be- we favour bilateral track between india and Pakistan. You know our position. It hasn't changed. Today we have closed consultations and we will just exchange opinions and see what we can do and what we cannot do. It is a normal process."

Syed Akbaruddin slams Pakistan after UN closed-door meeting

Responding to the questions of the Pakistani reporters after UN closed door meeting, India's permanent representative in the UN Syed Akbaruddin gave a stern warning to the neighbouring country in order to initiate dialogue, calling for action against terror activities. "Using terror to try and push your goals is not the way a normal state behave in - Stop terror to start talks," he said in a stringent warning to Pak. During the briefing, he was questioned by another Pakistan journalist asking "when will India begin a dialogue with Pakistan?". Responding to the question, in a spontaneous gesture, Syed Akbaruddin immediately went to the Pak reporter and shook his hand and another Pak reporter's hand.Syed Akbaruddin, at his best, showed his witty side during the press briefing and single-handedly shut down Pakistan at the UN, speaking for a billion.  At the beginning of the Q&A session, while journalists were clamouring to ask questions, he assured saying: "Relax, I will answer five questions - which is five times more than my last two predecessors, who came here." Further, when asked about the way forward as most global powers have stated that Jammu-Kashmir is a bilateral issue he said: "It is now for Pakistan to stop terror and start talks." When asked about the restrictions on the ground put in place in Jammu-Kashmir prior to the abrogation of article 370, he said: "Prevention is better than cure. Our measures were to stop terrorists from bleeding our people. There are no fatalities in the last 10 days."

Abrogation of Article 370

On August 5, India revoked Article 370 of the Constitution removing special status to Jammu and Kashmir, and has also bifurcated the state into two Union Territories -- Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh. Reacting to India's decision, Pakistan expelled the Indian High Commissioner soon after deciding to downgrade  diplomatic ties with New Delhi. India has categorically told the international community that its move to scrap Article 370 of the Constitution revoking the special status to Jammu and Kashmir was an internal matter and has also advised Pakistan to accept the reality.
