In huge push for Digital India; Modi Govt deregulates mapmaking policy; lifts restrictions

To realise the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, the Narendra Modi govt on Monday announced landmark reforms in India's geospatial technology sector

To realise India's vision of an 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' and to achieve goal of a 5 trillion-dollar ecomy, Narendra Modi government anunced landmark reforms in geospatial techlogy sector on Monday. 

Department of Science and Techlogy has introduced sweeping changes to country's map-making policy, specifically for Indian companies. Under new reforms, geospatial data that used to be restricted earlier will w be freely available in India.

Furrmore, Indian corporations and invators will be longer be bound by restrictions r prior approvals before y collect, generate, prepare, disseminate, store, publish, update digital Geospatial Data and Maps within territory of India.

Indian startups and mapping invators will be trusted to self-certify, apply good judgment, and be relied upon to demonstrate herence to guidelines. In dition, measures to promote development of Indian geospatial invations that take vant of latest map-making techlogies are also proposed.

A new parigm to Aatmanirbhar Bharat: PM Modi

Prime Minister Modi took to Twitter to anunce reforms in geospatial techlogy sector. "Liberalising policies governing acquisition and production of geospatial data is a massive step in our vision for an Aatmanirbhar Bharat," he said.

PM also said that country’s farmers will also be benefited by leveraging potential of geo-spatial and remote sensing data. "Democratizing data will enable rise of new techlogies and platforms that will drive efficiencies in agriculture and allied sectors, he tweeted.

Mapmaking in India completely deregulated

Elaborating furr on new policy, Union Minister MoS Dr Jitendra Singh said, "Mapmaking in India stands completely deregulated from February 15, this is in keeping with nda which has been followed by this government under PM Narendra Modi, nda of self-reliance and Atmanirbhar Bharat."
