On the 55th death anniversary of first Prime Minister of independent India Jawaharlal Nehru, Congress president Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter to remember his great-grandfather on the occasion.

On the 55th death anniversary of first Prime Minister of independent India Jawaharlal Nehru on May 27, Congress president Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter to remember his great-grandfather on the occasion. 

In his tweet, Rahul Gandhi urged the people to "remember Jawaharlal Nehru ji's contribution in building a strong, independent, modern institution, that have helped the democracy survive in India for over 70 years" on his death anniversary. He also added that "many democratic nations as young as India, soon degenerated into dictatorships".

Earlier, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Congress president Rahul Gandhi paid tribute to the first PM of India at the Shanti Van, on his death anniversary. They were joined by former president Pranab Mukherjee, former vice president Hamid Ansari and former prime minister Manmohan Singh who also paid homage to the late prime minister at the Shanti Vaan in Delhi.

On Monday morning, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter and paid his tribute to Jawaharlal Nehru and remembered his contribution to the nation on his death anniversary:
