Taking note of the dire state of the environment in one of Mumbai's most popular areas, Bollywood actress Esha Gupta and Yuva Sena Chief Aaditya Thackeray participated in a much-needed mangrove cleanup drive on Saturday.
Esha Gupta and Thackeray joined hands and came together for the 'Walk for Mangrove' cleanup that was organized by Bhamla Foundation run by Asif Bhamla. The duo along with many volunteers headed to Mumbai's Carter Road, near the Western Coast of the financial capital. The group conducted an intense clean-up drive of the mangroves near the Carter Road promenade which is full of trash. The hazardous garbage is thrown ashore by the waves that emerge during the high tides, hence causing pollution in the mangroves.
Esha Gupta posted pictures and videos from the clean-up drive. In the pictures, she can be seen removing and collecting all sorts of garbage that has gutted the mangroves for years. Gupta also expressed her discontent towards the state of these mangroves. Here's what she wrote in the caption:
"Not proud of what I saw, this how all the mangroves seem all around our city. BMC does the best they can, but few people cleaning are against the odds of so many of us polluting the oceans. This is a small step towards a better tomorrow"
She also acknowledged the efforts taken by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to ensure that the surrounding is not looming in a situation like this. She also appreciated the meticulous efforts taken up by the people who stood up alongside her. The event was organized on the occasion of Bhamla Foundation's founder Asif Bhamla's birthday. The Bollywood actress also extended her wishes and appreciated the call for cleanup:
Thackeray also joined the cleanup drive and tweeted about it:
