IN PICTURES: Indian Navy's ship experiences a 'roll' as Cyclone Fani roils the seas, water enters quarterdeck

On Thursday, one of the ships of the Indian Navy was hit by the Cyclone while it was on the seas. The Indian Navy took to its official Twitter account and shared pictures of the ship, which was deployed in the Cyclone Fani, experiencing a roll by the choppy waters.

Out of the three pictures shared on Twitter, two pictures show the deck of the ship, tilting in opposite directions due to the heavy winds and water. The other picture shows the quarterdeck of the ship immersed in water, implying the ship had been in and out of water.
"Have a look at the roll being experienced by one of the ships deployed in the wake of #CycloneFani. Do notice the totally wet quarter deck.. Yes, it's getting in and out of water view choppy seas around," the tweet read.

Cyclone Fani has made landfall in Odisha's Puri district on Friday morning, triggering heavy rainfall coupled with high-velocity winds with speed of 175 kmph in vast areas. Large areas in the seaside pilgrim town of Puri and other places were submerged with water as heavy rains battered the entire coastal belt of the state as the impact of Cyclone Fani started early on Friday.
Nearly 11 lakh people have been evacuated from vulnerable and low-lying areas of at least 11 coastal district, he said, adding the evacuees have been accommodated in over 4,000 shelters, including 880 specially designed cyclone centres.

The Indian Coast Guard has positioned 34 disaster relief teams at different spots at Vishakhapatnam, Chennai, Gopalpur, Haldia, Frazergunj and Kolkata. It has also deployed four ships to handle any exigency.
