In West Bengal's Kalimpong, Independence Day no less a festival than Diwali, celebrated with great pomp for at least 2 days

If any Indian state or its capital can emulate the kind of jubilation with which the country's Independence Day must be celebrated, it is the Darjeeling's Kalimpong city. The city located in the state of West Bengal is known for having  I-Day celebrations lasting at least two to three days.

Reports have said that pomp and fervour of the I-Day celebrations in the city can be matched with that Mumbai's Ganesh Chaturthi, Durga Puja of Kolkata. Kalimpong's enthusiasm for Independence equals what most of India has for Diwali and Dussehra festivals.

On micro-blogging platform Twitter, one user who appears to be from Kalimpong shared what Independence Day means to the city and level at with which people celebrate the occasion.

He took to Twitter to describe the event after a Whatsapp forward regarding the I-Day went viral among the community. In his tweets, the user who goes by the name 'Namchu' describes with pictures and text the tradition of I-Day celebrations.
