Jammu & Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha participated in the 'Jashn-e-Azadi' event organized under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav at Dal Lake in Srinagar, to mark 75 years of Independence. 

Indian Ambassador to US Taranjit Singh Sandhu hoisted the National Flag at India House in Washington DC to mark the 76th Independence Day. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and his spouse Sudesh Dhankhar attended the 'At Home' reception hosted by President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on the occasion of Independence Day. 

On 76th Independence Day, Ambassador of India to France Jawed Ashraf hoisted the Indian flag & read the President of India's address at the Embassy of India, Paris. The event was attended by the Indian diaspora & friends of India. 

The atmosphere on Toronto streets is percolating with great energy as the Indian diaspora celebrates 75 years of India's Independence. Patriotic spirits are not only high in India on the occasion of the country's 75 years of Independence, but also in Canada as the Hindu and Sikh diaspora distribute free meals to the Canadian public in downtown Toronto.

The Independence Day fervour reached the United States with singer and music composer Shankar Mahadevan singing 'Ae Watan' at Times Square in New York where the national flag will shortly be hoisted. 

After the Beating Retreat, the Border Security Force addressed the media. " We had decided whether there would be rain or anything, the ceremony will be held. I congratulate all of you," the BSF said. 

The Beating Retreat ceremony on India's 76th Independence Day came to an end.

In a synchronized manner, the flags of both India and Pakistan were lowered at the Attari-Wagah border.

After hoisting the national flag in Chennai, TN CM MK Stalin remarked, "Just as the three colours are the same in the national flag, we can overcome our differences and unite to protect our India! Internal unity is essential to defeat the external forces! Let's make united India prosperous through self-sufficient states in all sectors!"

As a part of the 75th year of India’s independence celebrations, the Indian Coast Guard conducted an underwater national flag demo at sea near the pristine islands of Andaman & Nicobar.

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of the 76th Independence Day on Monday calling for an attack on ‘dostwaad’. Raising questions on PM Modi's Independence Day speech, wherein he had slammed 'pariwarwaad', Sisodia remarked that in the same way, 'dostwaad', was taking a toll on the country's economy. 

"The Prime Minister had shown big dreams to the people. But unless the blueprint is followed, it will only be promises. I want to tell everyone that take one step and come with Arvind Kejriwal to work on the blueprint. PM Modi was talking about achieving an aspirational society, but in reality, he did not fulfill what he promised. 'Pariwarwaad' is bad but 'dostwaad' equally bad. 'Dostwaad' has taken down the country's economy," said Manish Sisodia.

A 750-square feet national flag that has travelled from Sikkim to Antarctica was displayed at Lal Chowk in Srinagar. It made for a sight to behold when the 750 sq ft National Flag was displayed at historical Lal Chowk. All civilians and Armed Forces personnel came together to sing the National anthem. 

SP president Akhilesh Yadav greeted people on the occasion of Independence Day. He said, "Socialists have always celebrated national festivals. Be it 15th August or 26th January, they have participated enthusiastically. How to strengthen the country and democracy, how we got the constitution, how the country should run on that constitution, the socialists have always been working on it". He added, "While we are celebrating the independence today, we also remember the martyrs whose sacrifices gave us freedom". 

Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis hoisted the National Flag at the Divisional Commissioner Office, Nagpur.

Shiv Sena chief and ex-Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray hoisted the tricolor at the Shiv Sena Bhavan in the presence of his wife Rashmi Thackeray, party leaders such as Anil Desai, Bhaskar Jadhav, Aaditya Thackeray, Kishori Pednekar and Manisha Kayande and multiple workers.

34 Battalion PAC of Uttar Pradesh celebrated Independence Day in Varanasi.

Wife, daughter, and uncle of longest surviving Hizbul Mujahideen militant commander Mohammad Amin hoisted the National Flag in the Kishtwar district of Jammu & Kashmir on Monday. Issuing a message on the occasion of India's 76th Independence Day, she appealed to him to surrender and return to the national mainstream. She also thanked the Indian Army for inviting her to the flag hoisting ceremony. Amin alias "Jehangir Saroori", a resident of Kishtwar, joined the militant ranks in the early 1990s and has been evading arrest for over three decades.

The Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav was celebrated in Perth, Australia onboard INS Sumedha. The Tiranga was hoisted in the presence of veterans and members of the Australian Defence Forces.

A ceremonial Parade was held at the Eastern Naval Command (ENC) Parade Ground in Visakhapatnam, to celebrate Independence Day.

India donated 15,000 bicycles to Madagascar on the occasion of Independence Day. Madagascar PM Christian Ntsay and Ambassador of India to Madagascar Abhay Kumar rode bicycles together in a show of growing friendship and solidarity between the two Indian Ocean neighbours.

More than 3000 students from a private college formed the map of India in tricolour in the Dindigul district, on the occasion of Independence Day. 

Given that a large number of students from the state fly to foreign nations to continue their education, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann said the government will open new medical colleges, schools and stadiums in Punjab so that children get all opportunities in their home state and don't have to travel abroad. He was addressing the audience on the occasion of the 76th Independence Day in Ludhiana at the Guru Nanak Dev stadium after hoisting the National Flag. Notably, Chief Minister Mann also dedicated 75 Aam Aadmi clinics to the people of the state and said that this is just the first phase of opening the clinics. 

Former legendary cricketer Sanath Jayasuriya stated, "A happy 75th Independence Day to all my friends in India and all over the world. Special thanks for being such a good friend to Sri Lanka during our time of need."

For the first time in India's history, a 'Made in India' ATAGS howitzer was used as a part of the 21-gun salute on the 76th Independence Day on Monday. In the visuals shared by news agency ANI, the indigenous 155 mm x 52 caliber howitzer gun can be seen firing its ceremonial salute at the Red Fort in Delhi. During his address at the Red Fort, PM Modi referred to the gun and cited it as an achievement of India's resolve to move towards an 'Atmanirbhar Bharat'.

Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar hoisted the national flag on Independence Day in Samalkha, Panipat.

Speaking after the flag hoisting ceremony, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal remarked, "It's one thing to be free, and it's another to keep moving forward In the celebration of 75 years of independence, it has to be thought that how did the countries that became independent after us like Singapore, overtake us? There is no shortage of talent in India, there is no shortage of talent in Indians". Stressing that countries like the US, Germany, France, Canada and Denmark became rich by providing quality education and good healthcare to the people, he promised to make India a rich nation too.

The longest Tiranga rally was carried out in Srinagar on the occasion of Independence Day.

"It was a very proud moment to be one of the two selected for the space mission from our country. The whole country was behind us," Air Commodore Ravish Malhotra (Retd.) recalled.

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's daughter Anita Bose Pfaff has said the time has come to bring back his remains to India and suggested that DNA testing can provide answers to those still having doubts about his death on August 18, 1945. The Austrian-born economist living in Germany said DNA testing offers a chance to obtain scientific proof that the remains kept at Renkoji temple in Tokyo are of Netaji's and the Japanese government has agreed to such a procedure. In a statement, Pfaff, the only child of Netaji, said since her father did not live to experience the joy of freedom, it is time that at least his remains can return to Indian soil.

"Modern technology now offers the means for sophisticated DNA testing, provided DNA can be extracted from the remains. To those who still doubt that Netaji died on August 18, 1945, it offers a chance to obtain scientific proof that the remains kept at Renkoji temple in Tokyo are his," she said.

To celebrate India’s 75th Independence Day, the Indian Flag was unfurled around 30 kilometres above the Earth. As part of the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' initiative underneath the Indian government's Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav campaign, Space Kidz India sent the Tricolour high above the planet with a help of a ‘special balloon’. Space Kidz India is an aerospace organization that grooms young scientists for the nation and spreads awareness among children for a borderless world.

Wishing Indians on Independence Day, former Afghanistan First President Amrullah Saleh remarked, "August 15 is auspicious for India and a bitter coincidence for Afghans who mourn the creepy occupation of their country by the Pakistan-backed Talib militias. As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations marking 75 years of India’s Independence, a Ceremonial Parade was held at INS Shikra on 15 August 2022. Vice Admiral Ajendra Bahadur Singh, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command took the salute and inspected a 50-men Guard. He later reviewed the platoons comprising naval personnel drawn from all ships, submarines and shore establishments. The parade was attended by all Flag Officers and Commanding Officers in Mumbai.

The Commander-in-Chief also paid homage to all personnel that made the supreme sacrifice in service to the nation by placing a floral wreath at the Gaurav Stambh, the Victory at Sea Memorial at Naval Dockyard, Mumbai. Addressing the parade, V Adm Singh congratulated all personnel on the parade, their families, and our countrymen on the momentous occasion of completing 75 years as an Independent nation. The Admiral recounted various important milestones of our country's growth and development into a confident, Aatmanirbhar Bharat - India@75.

Participating in the Azadi Gaurav Yatra, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra remarked, "Greetings on Independence Day. The message is that we should remember our martyrs, citizens and leaders who sacrificed their lives for independence & due to whom we're independent today. Together we'll be ready to take a decision for our country & take it forward". She took part in the public gathering despite testing positive for COVID-19 on August 10.

On the occasion of Independence Day, WB CM Mamata Banerjee detailed her vision for India. She said, "I have a dream for India! The Embassy of Japan presented a vocal & instrumental rendition of the National Anthem of India on Independence Day. 

Speaking at the Independence Day celebrations, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma stated, "Assam government will withdraw one lakh minor cases, including for social media posts, to reduce the burden on the lower judiciary".

Sweets are exchanged between BSF and Border Guards Bangladesh at Phulbari, Siliguri on the occasion of Independence Day. BSF DIG NS Aujla said, "On August 15, we exchange sweets with BGB. This helps us maintain good rapport". 

Union Min Ashwini Vaishnaw said, "You heard PM say want kind of India do we make by 2047 and how we have to make a developed nation in the 25-yr Amrit Kaal. There'll be a major contribution of Railways, Telecom, Digital India...Together we'll make a strong, developed India."

Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami hoisted the national flag. He stressed, "On the 75th year of independence, under the leadership of PM Modi, we are celebrating the Amrit Mahotsav of freedom. Dedicated to freedom fighters and martyred brave soldiers, this Amrit Mahotsav is a pledge to build a new and self-reliant India."

Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani along with his wife Nita Ambani and grandson Prithvi Ambani celebrated Independence Day.

Republic TV's Alisha reported from INS Gomantak in Goa. Speaking to Republic TV, a naval officer said, "Every breath we take of freedom is because of the braves who gave their lives for us. We rest on their laurels. It is our duty to honour them and remember them on every occasion."

AIMIM president and Lok Sabha MP Asaduddin Owaisi hoisted tricolour at Madina Circle, Hyderabad on the occasion of Independence Day.

CJI NV Ramana hoisted the national flag in the Supreme Court. Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju was also present at the ceremony.

Speaking to Republic TV, Rajya Sabha MP Sonal Mansingh said, "The Constitution says it is by the people, for the people and of the nation. But the translation in reality is what we are watching today on the ground, that it is by the people, for the people and of the people. This is the festival of culture. This is a festival which has shown respect for every generation. There is no sector that the PM didn't talk about."

People celebrated Independence Day at Gujarat's Nadabet border.

After hoisting the national flag, Haryana CM Manohar Khattar remarked, "Today is a day of joy and happiness for every Indian. Today we have completed 75 years as an independent India. To see this day, many sons of Mother India made their supreme sacrifice while carrying out their duties". He added, "To this day innumerable patriots justified the tortures of foreign rulers. Many patriots including Shaheed-e-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev and Shaheed Udham Singh were hanged to death. Today I pay heartfelt tributes to all the martyrs". 

The Indian Navy celebrated 75 years of Independence with Naval warships hoisting the tricolour across 6 Continents, 3 Oceans and 6 different Zones saluting the spirit of the tricolour. 

Russia hailed India as its "trusted partner" in the congratulatory message for the 75th Independence Day. Russian Ambassador to India, Denis Alpov extended "warmest congratulations" to the Indian people. He said, "Russia as a trusted friend extends the best wishes to India on her path of progress for the benefit and prosperity of the Indian people. Jai Hind! Jai Rus!"

Marking India’s 75th Independence Day, governments and leaders across the globe on Monday poured in wishes for the largest democracy in the world. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese remembered Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s call for his people to join with confidence in the adventure of their new independence.  He hailed the “remarkable” achievements made by India while also recalling the “fond memories” he has while travelling through the nation. 

Meanwhile, Singapore's government’s wishes were conveyed by the country’s embassy in India. Taking to Twitter, Singapore’s mission in India said, “Wishing India a wonderful 76th Independence Day! Many remarkable achievements by our dearest friends from the world’s largest democracy to be proud of.”

PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti stoked another row by claiming that Kashmiris were forced by the authorities to hoist the national flag. She alleged, "Jawaharlal Nehru standing tall between two flags, the Indian national flag & J&Ks state flag adopted constitutionally in 1952 and bulldozed in 2019 to fulfill BJPs divisive agenda. Now, every foundational value that the Indian flag stands for too lies in peril. Lest we forget, the people of J&K accepted the Indian flag in October 1947. But on certain conditions and constitutional guarantees like their own flag & a separate constitution way before BJP’s ideological parent - the RSS accepted it". 

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee hoisted the national flag in Kolkata.

Armed Forces personnel celebrated Independence Day at Siachen- the highest battlefield of the world.

INS Tarkash hoisted the national flag in Brazil, South America on Independence Day.

Republic TV is reporting from the Khajuwala border in Rajasthan as the country celebrates 75 years of freedom.

In her message on Independence Day, Congress president Sonia Gandhi stressed that Indians have left a mark in several areas such as science, health and IT industry over the last 75 years. However, she dubbed the Centre 'narcissistic' and accused it of belittling the great sacrifices made by our freedom fighters and our proud achievements. Maintaining that this cannot be accepted, she emphasised that any wrong comments made on historical facts for political gains and attempts to cast aspersions on Gandhi, Nehru, Patel and Azad will be opposed. 

Union Ministers including Nirmala Sitharaman and Rajnath Singh hailed PM Modi's Independence Day address.

Nepal's Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr. Narayan Khadka extended his warm greetings and felicitations to External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar on the happy occasion of Independence Day.

Speaking about PM Modi's Independence Day speech, Major (retd.) Gaurav Arya opined, 'PM mentioned mental slavery, that mindset has to go away. So far we have been asking what is the country doing for me, but it's also about what we are doing for the country. He mentioned the duties of citizens."

"India is strong because India's citizens are strong. Every Indian contributes to the country. The PM has set the agenda for the next 25 years," defence expert Lt Gen KJS Dhillon (retd.) told Republic TV.

Speaking exclusively to Republic Media Network's Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami, celebrated actor Anupam Kher lauded PM Modi's Independence Day speech. He said, "I am 8 years younger than the nation. I was born in 1955. The country was born in 1947. The country and I grew up together."

Chants of 'Vande Mataram' resonated at Srinagar's Lal Chowk. Moreover, some men also waved the tricolour.

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar hoisted the national flag at his residence in Patna, on Independence Day.

After hoisting the national flag, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat said, "We call the top color of the national flag saffron color which is the color of sacrifice, action, light and knowledge. We will become pure, our mind will not suffer from vices, so the second color is white. The green color of all prosperity symbolizes Lakshmi ji". He added, "We can do all this only by following Dharma, that's why the Dharma Chakra is in the center of the flag. Understanding these things, we should work hard. We should not think about what I will get. We need to live our life only by considering what I am giving to my country". 

During the 75th Independence Day speech, PM Modi reportedly sidelined the teleprompter and spoke using paper notes. It was his 9th address from the ramparts of the Red Fort. 

After a brief interaction with the crowd, PM Modi left the Red Fort.

In a fierce attack on PM Modi, Kerala Congress opined, "We need to free the country from SANGH PARIVAARWAAD. There's a real need to raise awareness against these corrupt termites in power who eat and sell whatever we've built as a country in the last 75 years!"

After his speech, PM Modi greeted and interacted with various persons at the Independence Day celebrations.

PM Modi clarified that his fight was not just limited to the evil of dynasty in politics, but in other sectors as well. Thereafter, he sought cooperation from the people in the fight against dynasty. 

He remarked, "Two big challenges we face today - corruption and 'Parivaarvaad' or nepotism. Corruption is hollowing the country like a termite, we've to fight it. We've to raise awareness against 'Parivaarwaad' to realise the strength of our institutions, to take the country forward on the basis of merit."

According to PM Modi, corruption and dynasty are the biggest challenges for India in the next 25 years. Stressing the need to fight against corruption at all costs, he pointed out that the properties of those who ran away with the money from banks have been attached and the government is trying to get them back and put them in jail. He asked for the people's support to enhance the fight against corruption. 

PM Modi coined new a Mantra- 'Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan, Jai Vigyaan, Jai Anusandhan' as India completed 75 years of Independence. Anusandhan implies innovation. 

Addressing the nation, PM Modi thanked the framers of the Constitution for the federal structure. He called for cooperative competitive federalism to ensure that there will be healthy competition between states to help the nation. 

"It's our endeavour that the youth of the country get all support for research in all areas from - space to the depths of the ocean. That's why we are expanding our Space Mission & Deep Ocean Mission. The solution to our future lies in the depths of space and the ocean," PM Modi remarked. 

The Indian Air Force extended greetings on the occasion of Independence Day.

On this occasion, PM Modi urged the need to ensure the optimum outcome of our human resources. He highlighted the contribution of working women in different professions from law to sports. He also made it clear that they will play a big role in the development of the country in the next 25 years. 

Speaking on one of the pledges- 'Unity', PM Modi stressed that boys and girls should be treated equally. He lamented that we tend to insult women on many occasions. He said, "Honour of women is very important to fulfill the dreams of the nation. I am seeing this insult". The PM added, "We have to keep India first, this will pave way for a united India". 

Reiterating the goal of Atmanirbhar Bharat, PM Modi thanked the Army for their contribution. He cited that the Armed Forces had opted for indigenous products instead of importing 330 items. He also flagged the fact that even 5-year-old children didn't want to play with foreign-manufactured toys. The PM stressed the need to be self-sufficient in every sector.

He asserted, "Self-reliant India becomes the responsibility of every citizen, of every govt, of every unit of society. Self-reliant India is not a government agenda or a government program. This is a mass movement of the society."

"We must ensure unity across all corners of India. Unity means India First," PM Modi remarked. 

PM Modi remarked, "In this 75-year journey, amid hopes, aspirations, highs and lows we reached where we could with everyone's effort. In 2014, citizens gave me the responsibility-the first person born after independence who got the opportunity to sing praises of this country from Red Fort."

Talking about one of the pledges for the next 25 years, PM Modi noted, "We should be proud of our heritage. We can only fly high if we are connected to our roots."

PM Modi stated, "Today, we are seeing the Digital India initiative, startups grow in the country, and a lot of talent is coming from Tier 2 and 3 cities. We have to believe in our abilities."

Stressing the potential of 130 crore Indians, PM Modi argued the need to focus our energies on 5 points for the upcoming 25 years when India turns 100. They are as follows:

1. India has to become a developed country

2. Every trace of slavery has to be erased

3. We have to take pride in our heritage

4. Unity and togetherness- Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat

5. Fulfilling duties as citizens

Speaking on the occasion, PM Modi stressed that India will achieve goals if we go forward with a firm resolve. For instance, he cited that during his tenure, the Centre managed to increase the pace of building new medical colleges, provide power connection to crores of people and ensure water to all under the Nal se Jal scheme. 

Congratulating Indians on Independence Day, Bill Gates remarked, "As India celebrates its 75th Independence Day, I congratulate PM Modi for prioritizing healthcare and digital transformation while spearheading India’s development. India's progress in these sectors is inspiring and we are fortunate to partner in this journey."

Addressing the nation, PM Modi welcomed the reawakening of a collective spirit. Hailing the Har Ghar Tiranga, he said that the campaign showed what the country is made of. He said, "When the country stands with Corona warriors by using support using utensils, it shows the spirit". 

"During 'Azadi Mahotsav', we remembered our many national heroes. On August 14, we remembered the horrors of partition. Today is the day to remember all citizens of the country who contributed towards taking our country forward in these last 75 years," PM Modi stated.

On this occasion, PM Modi highlighted the fact that India kept moving forward despite success and failures. He stated that many countries were not aware that India has an inherent ability. Terming India as the mother of democracy, he also made it clear that diversity is India's strength. 

Recalling his experience after taking over as the PM in 2014, PM Modi asserted that he tried to take along all sections of society including Dalits, youth and women and worked for everyone. He also lauded the fact that India has become an aspirational society. The PM stressed that the demands of the aspirational society have to be met.

PM Modi also hailed the contribution of India's first PM Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Deendayal Upadhyay, Nanaji Deshmukh and Subramania Bharati. Taking a dig at the Congress party, he lamented that the significance of many freedom fighters was not highlighted over the last few decades.

Commencing his address to the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort, PM Modi wished all citizens on India's Independence Day. He stated, "Not only in every corner of India, but in every corner of the world today, in some form or the other by Indians or those who have immense love for India, this tricolor is waving with pride in every corner of the world."

PM Modi recalled the sacrifices of freedom fighters such as Mahatma Gandhi, Subhash Chandra Bose, Babasaheb Ambedkar, Veer Savarkar, Mangal Pandey, Tatya Tope, Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Chandrashekhar Azad. Terming it a "historic day", he stressed that it was time to fulfill what they struggled for. He also spelled out the contribution of brave women like Rani Laxmibai, Jhalkari Bai, Chennamma and Begum Hazrat Mahal towards the Independence of India.

August 15, 1947, when India marked its Independence from British rule, is indelible in history and in people's collective memories. On this day, India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru hoisted the National Flag at the Red Fort in Delhi after 200 years of oppressive rule, following which, on Independence Day every year, the Prime Minister hoists the National Flag at the Red Fort. This year, to mark 75 years of independence, the Indian government has organized several events including Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. Issuing a statement on India's 75th Independence Day, US President Joe Biden stated, "As people around the world, including Indian-Americans, celebrate 75th anniversary of India’s independence, the United States joins the people of India to honor its democratic journey, guided by Mahatma Gandhi’s enduring message of truth and non-violence."

As India celebrates its 75th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation from the historic Red Fort, which is under a hawk-eyed vigil. The Mughal-era fort has a multi-layered security cover with more than 10,000 security personnel deployed at the venue.  Around 7,000 invitees will arrive at the Red Fort and a five-kilometre area around the Red Fort has been marked as a "no kite flying zone'' till the tricolour is hoisted.

Security cover has been beefed up across the national capital and forces are on high alert to thwart any untoward incident as police have intensified patrolling and deployed extra pickets at vital installations based on intelligence inputs received via central agencies. From facial recognition system (FRS) cameras installed at the entry point of the Red Fort to multi-layered security cover and deployment of over 400 kite catchers and fliers on rooftops and other sensitive locations in the fort area to counter any threats from sub-conventional aerial platforms, the area has been completely secured, a senior police official said.

Borders have also been sealed to ensure no untoward incident takes place in the national capital and strict action will be taken against anyone who tries to disrupt the law and order situation, the police official said. The multi-layered security ring, including NSG snipers, elite SWAT commandos, kite catchers, canine units and sharpshooters on high-rise buildings, has been placed around the Mughal-era fort, and adherence to social distancing norms will be must like last year due to the Covid pandemic.

Taking to Twitter on the occasion of India's 75th Independence Day, PM Modi stated, "Greetings on this very special Independence Day. Jai Hind!"

President Droupadi Murmu on Sunday delivered her maiden address to the nation on the eve of the 75th Independence Day. The President said that India's independence is a victory of democracy. She noted that India adopted universal adult suffrage since Independence and women had voting rights from the beginning, unlike most democracies where women had to struggle for a long time to get the right to vote. She said that the world is looking at India as a global power.

President Murmu said that August 14 is celebrated as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day to promote social harmony, human empowerment and unity. "On 15 August 1947, we cut the shackles of colonial rule. While celebrating the anniversary of that auspicious day, we salute all the freedom fighters. They sacrificed everything so that we can all breathe in a free India," she said. She added that India can be credited to have helped the world discover the true potential of democracy. "We Indians proved skeptics wrong. Democracy not only grew roots in this soil but it was also enriched too," Murmu elaborated.

The beating retreat ceremony was held at the Attari-Wagah border in Punjab's Amritsar on the eve of Independence Day, August 14, 2022. The ceremony is a daily military practice that India's Border Security Force (BSF) and Pakistan Rangers have jointly followed together since 1959. A huge crowd had gathered at the Attari-Wagah border right before the beating retreat ceremony and were heard singing songs of patriotism, dancing and hoisting the Indian National flag. I

The Beating Retreat is an iconic ritual of lowering the national flags of both countries at the border just before the sunset. The  BSF soldiers were seen marching forward with vigour and ferocity as they proudly carried the national flag in their hands. There were various cultural performances that were organised as part of the Beating Retreat ceremony. Prior to the beating retreat ceremony on August 14, Pakistan Rangers and the BSF exchanged sweets at the Attari-Wagah border, Amritsar on the occasion of Independence Day of Pakistan.
