India & China troops begin disengagement along the Pangong Lake as per consensus reached

During the 9th commander-level talks, India and China held extensive deliberations on modalities for disengagement of troops from all friction points in Ladakh.

Chinese and Indian border troops have begun ir disengment on sourn and rrn shores of Pangong Lake as per plan, China's mouthpiece media Global Times said quoting Chinese Defence Ministry. According to Chinese media report, both sides h reached a certain consensus during ninth round of military commander-level talks, based on which y h begun to diseng ir troops from Wednesday.

Ninth commander-level talks

During 9th commander-level talks, India and China held extensive deliberations on modalities for disengment of troops from all friction points in eastern Lakh where nearly 1,00,000 Indian and Chinese troops are stationed, holding ir ground after ir fierce face-off in Galwan, nine months ago. This time, an MEA representative along with Army officials was also a part of  military talks.

During talks, India strongly demanded restoration of status quo ante in all areas of eastern Lakh prior to April. India h previously rejected China's proposition for 'a selective approach', urging that disengment process must start simultaneously at all friction points. 

As per proposal, India is expected to vacate heights occupied on Kailash range on sourn side of lake in next phase. On August 29 and 30,  Indian army h substantially occupied high state of combat region along banks of Pangong Lake. Moreover, it was also proposed that conflict zone between Finger 4 to Finger 8 could become a patrolling zone for some time.

"It was said that both sides agreed to follow important consensus of leers of respective country and maintain momentum of talks," MEA spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said after talks.

Srivastava also stated that two countries h agreed to hold 10th round of Corps Commander-level dialogue soon to take forward de-escalation process along LAC.
