India & Greece hold bilateral talks; recognize threat posed by cross-border terrorism

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is on an official visit to Greece on 25-27 June 2021 at the invitation of his Greek counterpart Nikos Dendias.

On occasion of 200th anniversary of Greek independence, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is on an official visit to Greece on 25-27 June 2021 at invitation of his Greek counterpart Nikos Dendias. On Saturday, India and Greece recognized threat posed by ricalization, violent extremism, as well as terrorism, including cross-border terrorism, and emphasized that re can be no justification for se in any form or manifestation. India and Greece enjoy close and friendly relations which have been strengned by shared values of democracy, rule of law, pluralism, equality, freedom of speech, and respect for human rights.

S.Jaishankar meets Greek PM

During visit, Jaishankar paid a courtesy call on Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. He also unveiled statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Ans on 26 June 2021 as statue will act as a strong symbol of friendship between two countries.

External Minster Jaishankar also held bilateral and insightful talks on many regional & global issues with his Greek counterpart Nikos Dendias. Both leers agreed to step up pace of engagement and work towards a strategic partnership.

India & Greece bilateral talks on regional & global issues

  • Both sides h a comprehensive exchange of views on furr consolidating bilateral relations, which continue to deepen and expand rapidly. Noted with satisfaction ongoing cooperation in several areas, such as tre and investment, science and technology, culture, acemics, and people-to-people contact, and agreed to work toger to furr enhance collaboration in se areas.
  • It was also agreed that next round of Foreign Office Consultations and Joint Tre Committee would be held soon. Both sides also agreed to work towards establishment of a Strategic Partnership. 
  • An agreement on International Solar Alliance (ISA) to Indian side was signed and handed over by Greek Foreign Minister. External Affairs Minister of India welcomed Greece to family of ISA. Both sides agreed that this will assist two countries in realization of energy goals set by respective governments to make renewable energy a significant part of energy supply. 
  •  importance of movement of people in an orderly and legal way and agreed to work towards and signing an agreement on migration and mobility.
  • Both countries recognized threat posed by ricalization, violent extremism, as well as terrorism, including cross-border terrorism. y emphasized that re can be no justification for se in any form or manifestation.
  • Deep commitment to multilateralism, and a rules-based international order. y reaffirmed importance of urgent reform of UN, including UNSC expansion, and or multilateral institutions so as to make m more inclusive, transparent, accountable, and better reflective of contemporary geopolitical realities. Greek side reiterated its support for permanent membership of India in a reformed UNSC.
  • Discussed Covid-19 situation globally and process of economic recovery. y agreed on need for joint efforts to combat disease and to work toger for consolidating economic and commercial activities during and immediately after pandemic.
