Following several incidents of violent clashes against Hindus in Cana, Consulate General of India in Toronto has decided to cancel some upcoming consular camps due to security concerns. On Monday, vember 4, 2024, Indian High Commission in Cana reported that a consular camp in Brampton, near Toronto, faced ‘violent disruptions’ on Sunday. This incident follows an attack on Hindu-Canian devotees at a Hindu temple near Toronto, raising furr alarm within Indian community.

Indian High Commission strongly condemned violent disruption caused by 'anti-India' elements outside Brampton camp and voiced concerns about safety of Indian nationals in Cana.
Earlier, two Hindu temples in Brampton and Surrey were attacked, sparking demonstrations and protests at both sites. Canian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau condemned incidents but did t dress issue of Khalistani elements within Cana.

Relations between India and Cana have deteriorated sharply since Ottawa accused Indian government of involvement in 2023 killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a 45-year-old Canian citizen and prominent Khalistan supporter, in Vancouver. Cana has also alleged that India is carrying out a broer campaign targeting Sikh activists within Canian borders, which reportedly includes intimidation, threats, and even acts of violence.
