Bengal: Girl Raped, Murdered; Accused Lynched

A girl was allegedly raped and murdered, following which enraged villagers lynched one of the accused in West Bengal's Alipurduar district, police said.The incident took place in Falakata area on Friday afternoon.The girl's body was found in a pond, following which the villagers tied a man, whom they alleged was one of the accused, to a tree and beat him up mercilessly, a police officer said.

Namo Bharat Train Services to Start 2 Hours Early on Bhai Dooj

Namo Bharat train will start its operation two hours early than usual at 6 am on Sunday on the occasion of Bhai Dooj, the NCRTC said in a statement.Trains will be operated with increased frequency, it said.According to the statement, train services on the operational section of Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor will start early on Sunday, operating from 6 am instead of the usual 8 am.

Air Quality 'Poor' in Kolkata After Diwali

The air quality index (AQI) in Kolkata was in the 'poor' category on Saturday following Diwali celebrations, a West Bengal Pollution Control Board (WBPCB) official said.AQI in terms of PM 2.5 was 288 in Ballygunge, 210 in Jadavpur, 211 in Rabindra Bharati University and 219 in Bidhannagar at 9 am, all classified as 'poor', the official told PTI.

Two Militants Killed in Encounter in J-K's Anantnag

 Two militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, officials said.The encounter broke out near Halkan Gali in the Shangus-Larnoo area of the south Kashmir district.Of the two militants killed, one was a foreigner and the other a local. Their group affiliation was yet to be ascertained, the officials said.

Delhi AQI at 296, Smog Engulfs City

A thin layer of smog engulfed the national capital and the AQI was recorded at  296 at 7 am on Saturday, according to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR).

 In Anand Vihar, the AQI was recorded at a very poor category of 380 at 7 am; in ITO, it was 253 (poor) at 6 am; in RK Puram, it was 346 (very poor) at 6 am; in IGI Airport T3 it was 342 (very poor) at 6 am; and in Dwarka Sector 8 the AQI was 308 (very poor) at 7 am, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

AQI Remains 'Poor' in Several Parts of Haryana, Punjab

The AQI in several places in Haryana and neighbouring Punjab was recorded in the 'poor' category on Saturday.

According to the Sameer app that provides hourly updates of the national Air Quality Index (AQI) published by the Central Pollution Control Board, the AQI in Chandigarh -- the joint capital of the two states -- was also in the 'poor' category.

While the AQI improved slightly in a few places in Haryana, including Gurugram, Jind, Ambala and Kurukshetra, it remained in the 'poor' category. The AQI in these places was 'very poor' on Friday, the morning after Diwali.
