India, Myanmar hold foreign office consultations to discuss range of issues

Foreign Office Consultations between India and Myanmar was held virtually on October 1, during which Myanmar was assured that it is an integral element of India's Neighbourhood First and Act East policies. While Indian delegation was led by Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla, Myanmar delegation was led by Permanent Secretary U Soe Han. Thursday’s meeting, which marked 19th round, saw a useful exchange on various issues, such as border cooperation, coronavirus pandemic and tre and investment ties.
According to official press te released by Ministry of External Affairs, both sides review entire gamut of relations, including up-gration of border infrastructure, status of India’s ongoing development projects in Myanmar, tre and investment ties, power and energy cooperation, consular matters and cultural cooperation, including ongoing restoration work on earthquake-damd pagodas in Bagan. Furr, cooperation in regional and multilateral fora was also discussed.

two sides expressed satisfaction that despite ongoing coronavirus pandemic, meeting in several areas, such as power, energy and etc., have been held virtually, reflecting depth of bilateral engment. two sides also held extensive discussions on challenges posed by COVID-19 and ways to mitigate its impact, including through vaccine development, supply of medicines, equipment and techlogy and capacity building.

Next meet to held on October 20
Myanmar’s official reaffirmed its country’s commitment to furr strengn its time tested partnership with India for mutual benefit of two countries. Soe Han also expressed appreciation for COVID related and development assistance extended by India to Myanmar and furr thanked nation for providing debt service relief under G-20 Debt Service Suspension Initiative. It was ted that next Joint Tre Committee Ministerial Meeting to be held on October 20, which will be useful in furr strengning bilateral tre and investment relations.
