NIA Declares Cash Reward For Arrest of 2 Including Terrorist Goldy Brar

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday spread its dragnet further in search of designated terrorist Goldy Brar and one other gangster, wanted in a case of alleged extortion and firing at the house of a businessman in Chandigarh, with the declaration of a cash reward for their arrest. The agency has announced a cash reward of Rs 10 lakh each for any information leading to the apprehension/ arrest of either of the two men. The agency further stated that the identity of the informant would be kept a secret.

3 held, 120 gm Brown Sugar Seized in Jharkhand

 Three persons were arrested and around 120 gm of brown sugar seized from their possession in Jharkhand’s Garhwa district on Wednesday, police said.

Based on a tip-off, a team of security forces intercepted a vehicle and recovered the consignment, they said.

“Three persons were arrested in connection with the recovery,” Garhwa SP Deepak Kumar Pandey said.

Further investigation is underway, he said.

77-Year-Old Man Dies in Bee Attack in Tamil Nadu

A 77-year-old man, who was stung by bees while climbing a tree, succumbed in a hospital in this district, police said.

According to police, Gurusamy, a tree climber of Punjai Thuraiya Palayam village within Bangla Pudur police limits, while climbing a coconut tree two days ago was attacked by a swarm of bees and admitted to a hospital for treatment. He, however, died in the hospital on Tuesday evening.

Bangalapudur police registered a case and are investigating.

Himachal Gearing Up to Adopt New Criminal Laws, Training Underway: Top Police Officer

The preparation for adopting the system of the three new criminal laws is in full swing in Himachal Pradesh, with the related training of officials to be completed soon, a top police officer said on Wednesday.

The new laws embody a reformative philosophy, not retributive philosophy and will make the system transparent, strong and effective, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Abhishek Trivedi said in a statement issued here.

"All cases registered since midnight of July 1 will be tried as per the new criminal laws," he said during an interaction with officials.

The three laws -- Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam -- which are replacing the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Code of Criminal Procedure and Evidence Act, respectively, will be effective from July 1, according to the Centre.

Encounter begins at Gandoh area of Doda
