India Reports First Case of Mpox Strain That Triggered WHO Health Emergency: Reports

India reported the first case of the Mpox strain which was reported in Kerala, Malappuram last week. The patient was a 38-year-old man who travelled from UAE.

New Delhi: India has reported the first case of the Mpox strain, which was reported in Kerala , Malappuram last week. The patient was a 38-year-old man who travelled from United Arab Emirates (UAE). This was the strain after which WHO declared a public health emergency last month, sources were quoted as saying by news agency ANI on Monday. 

A patient diagnosed with the latest strain of Mpox was in stable condition, according to sources.

This was the first case of the current strain, which prompted the World Health Organization (WHO) to declare Mpox a public health emergency for the second time last month.

Earlier, a 26-year-old resident of Haryana 's Hisar who has tested positive for the previous West African Clade 2 strain earlier this month.

Since the 2022 declaration of Mpox as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern by the WHO, 30 cases were reported in India.
