India's Population to Cross 150 Crore-Mark by 2036; Sex Ratio Likely to Improve: Govt Data
In a report released by the Centre, the population of India has been estimated at 152.2 crore by year 2036. The report also projected about improved sex-ratio.

New Delhi: A report titled ‘Women and Men in India 2023’ released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has estimated that the Indian population is likely to be 152.2 crore by the year 2036.

India's population has reportedly soared to an estimated 144 crore (1.44 billion), with approximately 24 per cent falling within the 0-14 age bracket, as per a recent analysis by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

India Will Have 48.8 % Women Population By 2036
According to the report, in 2036, women would account for 48.8.% of the population, as compared to 48.5% in 2011.
Sex Ratio To Improve By 2036
Accordingly, the sex ratio is estimated to go from 943 females (per 1000 males) to 952.

Also, the proportion of individuals who are under the age of 15, is projected to have decreased in 2036, with declining fertility being the most likely cause. Conversely, the proportion of those aged 60 and above, will have increased in these 25 years, the report stated.
Meanwhile, India has overtaken China as the world’s most populous country, according to UN population estimates, the most significant shift in global demographics since records began.

According to the UN’s projections, which are calculated through a variety of factors including census data and birth and death rates, India now has a population of 1,425,775,850, surpassing China for the first time.
It is also the first time since 1950, when the UN first began keeping global population records, that China has been knocked off the top spot.
