Indian Army constructs Siachen War Memorial in memory of supreme sacrifice by soldiers

In one of a kind tribute at the world's highest battleground, the Siachen war memorial has been constructed in the memory of the soldiers who laid down their lives while protecting the frozen frontiers of Siachen. The official account of Additional Directorate General of Public Information, ADG PI of the Indian Army, tweeted the following on Thursday, April 11:

'The Siachen War Memorial has been constructed in the eternal memory of all the Siachen warriors who have made supreme sacrifice guarding the frozen frontiers. Major renovation of the memorial has been undertaken by the Siachen Brigade in the year 2018-19.'

The war memorial has been constructed keeping in my mind the homage to the warriors, a structure that encapsulates that in its very true sense. Hence, as the pictures show, it constitutes of a ladder which the soldiers are climbing, and an Indian flag can be seen behind it. 'All Warriors go to Heaven,' has been written on the ladder.

The memorial structure reads:

'Quartered in the snow.
Silent to remain.
When the clarion calls.
We will rise and march again.'

This is followed by,

'To every man upon this Earth,
Death cometh sooner or later.
And how can man die better,
Than facing fearful odds.
For the ashes of his father,
And the temples of his Gods.'

Earlier in the day, the Election Commission of India shared pictures of Indian security stationed in remote locations at Siachen, exercising their franchise, undeterred in the face of the harsh and extremely cold weather. Amidst allegations of EVM malfunction, Jammu and Kashmir observed turnout of 55%.

The Indian Army troops deployed in Jammu and Kashmir performed their role by participating in Phase 1 of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections on April 11. 

In Jammu and Kashmir, 33 candidates are contesting in two constituencies. The main parties are PDP, Congress and JKNC alliance; and JKNPP.

On April 11, the number of polling centres in the state was 3489.
