Indo Pak International Border To Get High Tech Smart Fence To Guard Against Infiltration

With invisible electronic barriers, that can detect movement on Land, Air, Water and even underground, the international border in Jammu is going to get high-tech, with Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to inaugurate two pilot project from the BSF frontier headquarters in Jammu on Monday. With the high tech equipment including infrared sensors and laser-based intrusion detection system, it will help keep an eye on the gap areas that in the past were unguarded due to several reasons.

“The new high tech smart border fence will help the Jawans deployed at the border out posts to detect any movement and the Jawans can take action against the intruder” a senior BSF officer said.

He said that the two stretches of over 5 km each are being inaugurated as a pilot project by the union home minister and if they turn out to be successful the entire international border in Jammu region would be covered with the high tech smart fence.

Even as the BSF provides round the clock vigil along the international border in the Jammu region, still intruders find out gaps to infiltrate and the new high tech smart fence would help fill those gaps. In the recent past, BSF had busted several underground tunnels along the international border that were being constructed by the terrorists to infiltrate into the Indian side, timely detection of such tunnels foiled the intrusion bids.

“The smart fence will have a system in place that would automatically detect any activity beneath the ground and alert the nearest Border Out Post (BOP),” the officer said.

He said that the new smart fence would also be equipped with a sonar system that could detect any underwater movement at vulnerable spots including rivers and streams along the international border.

“The new fence will be equipped with several high tech sensors that could easily detect any movement along the international border. Though human presence will continue to remain the most important part to foil any intrusion bid, the technology will supplement the human presence on the ground,” the officer said.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh who will be inaugurating the two pilot projects of the newly constructed high tech smart fence from the BSF Headquarters frontier in Plaura tomorrow will also visit the International Border to interact with the BSF Jawans deployed there. Installation of high tech smart fence along the international border in Jammu region had become necessary as inputs suggest that a large number of trained terrorists were waiting for an opportunity to sneak into the Indian side.

The truck driver and the conductor arrested from Jhajjar Kotli who were ferrying three Pakistani terrorists from Jammu to Srinagar had told their interrogators that the Jaish-e- Mohammed terrorists had infiltrated through the international border in Samba sector and that in the past too several infiltrations had taken place from the same area.
